FWIW, I did hear that the rangers pressed so hard on Garza because he is friendly with our front office and feels comfortable with us... possibly indicating his resignability is very high

He will get a legitimate offer. He won't get the CJ Wilson offer by any means. The Rangers like him and have liked him for a number of years. I like him long term.

How on earth is whether or not Garza resigns with us immaterial? Sure nobody knows as of now, which is part of the story...the trade may affect next season in several ways.

Because Garza is a FA at the end of the season and he could be had for nothing at that point. The trade is merely for a rental.

And comparing Cliff Lee in 2010 to this Garza trade is well, like comparing Nolan Ryan to Aaron Sele.

I'm sure they anticipate being able to re-sign him.

I agree. He was even wanting to resign with the Cubs. He has a different approach than Lee it seems to being a FA.

Where are you guys hearing Ramirez was involved? The reports say Olt, Grimm, Edwards, and a player to be named. I haven;t seen anything on Ramirez. Personally, I feel its a little too much for Garza but at the end of the day the big league team did get better. I just hope they can sign him now, b/c they will need to. Also, I wouldn't compare this to the Lee trade... Lee is a way better pitcher than Garza.

I wouldn't assume anything. This is his last chance to get his big contract. I don't think he'll get overly money whipped but I think the range of 5 years and about 80-90 million will suffice and be worth it IMO.

Obviously he could be had for absolutely nothing, and he could be resigned and play a big role in our rotation for a couple seasons to come. That doesn't justify saying that what happens after this year is immaterial.

It did not say. It did say they wanted Odor who is having a great year at Myrtle Beach. He plays 2nd just in case you did not know. JD questioned Garza's elbow and gave them Grimm instead.
No loss JD. Good Swap

That was pretty funny.

Not really comparing Lee to Garza. Comparing how people thought we gave up too much in both cases and it was not true in 2010 and may not be again. Need to play to win now not next year and our farm system is still being stocked.

A farm system playing in the farm won't win you a World Series. You have a good farm for a reason. Every good teams take chances. Look at the Red Sox and Yanks. They take risks because they in win now mode. They are a good organization and will continue to bring in talent over the years. I'm not worried about the farm when it was clear they made a good trade to get a damn good pitcher.

Right on DT. JD's not playing, he wants this division...and we aren't hurting for prospects despite this trade, and we may be able to re-sign Garza as a bonus.

look for a good bat next folks

Agree with you 100 pct. Remember when we kept talking about DVD and when they were ready we were going to be really good and we would stink each year waiting on them. Glad we don't do that anymore.

so I guess the question is... who is next? I'm pretty confident JD has one or two more moves left. And I think an OF bat might be one of them. Who do you like and what would you give?

The Rangers weren't willing to give up Olt for Grienke this past season, but now will for Garza, a clearly inferior pitcher to Grienke. Has Olt really regressed that much? Just trying to wrap my head around this one.
