The appeal process, if there is one, will be long and drawn out... there are only 55 games left in the regular season.... if he appeals, and loses, he misses the rest of this regular season and the beginning of next year too

If he appeals he would still be allowed to play this season. If he just accepts it then he would get a 50 game suspension. There are 55 games left...

I could be wrong... but I think I read something somewhere that said if the players were to appeal... the MLBPA was going to do there best to see that they are held off till the end of the season... or at least something to that effect. This was a while back though and a lot has changed.

It's hard to think of those 5 games meaning too much without him in the lineup the other 50 though.

Yes but the appeals process probably won't, but may, take the rest of the season, lets say it takes 25 games to come to a decision and he loses, that leaves him with 30 games left to serve this year and 20 to start next year, which would kill his FA status, unless the Rangers swoop in and give him a contract favorable to both parties, incentive laden deal for us (even if the incentives are easy to reach), some guaranteed money for him

I think something along the lines of what Bruan got, 65 games, which would basically kill any chance of playing this season and missing the start of next season as well

I'm just throwing out possible scenarios;

My guess; he takes his suspension and comes back for the playoffs... if we make it

Wild card option; he accepts an incentive laden deal for 2 years with the Rangers and appeals this season and serves the suspension at the beginning of next year

Gotcha, that would kill Cruz's next FA contract and he wouldn't do that, I think his agent basically came out and said as much

Yeah, he would be doing us a huge favor if he did but it would be a poor business decision I suppose. Who knows though, maybe he doesn't his image tarnished or maybe he has some sort of good reason to appeal. Still, I agree, it seems a lot more likely with all the stuff coming out that he will just take the suspension.

He won't get any more than Melky Cabrera (2/16) got, if you make easy to reach incentives then he has a pretty good chanve to recoup that money, if he doesn't reach them, then thats kinda on him

OOOO... please take the WC option Cruz! Not too likely though. Even if he is guilty, I hope this does allow us to resign the guy for a little cheaper... I really want him to stay a Ranger.

They mentioned that as a possibility on the radio. I can't imagine Nelly would take less money without even getting a chance to test the market.

I've always been indifferent to Cruz, I'm just glad he got it together this year, if he left I wouldn't be devastated, but once again just serving up options that could potentially benefit both parties, short and long term

Theres no way Cruz is going to appeal, nor should he. In the end, this is his job, and even though he screwed up, if the Melky and ARod deals proved anything, its that a failed drug test wont keep him from getting a huge contract when he hits FA. The smart thing for the Rangers would be to find an aging stick that we could pick up by eating his contract, not by giving away the farm, and try and squeeze into the WC, with Nelly and our returning pitchers giving us a boost if we get there

No.... if Cruz doesnt appeal...the end of the 50 game suspension would be in late September.

That said, would the Rangers take a card out of the Giants notebook and tell him "we dont want you" come playoff time?
