2020 and the resulting shut down of the minor leagues for a year, slowed the rebuild process considerably? I am wondering if that delay alone was enough to make ownership grow impatient with the rebuild? In a round about way did the pandemic eventually cost JD his job?
I do not believe the pandemic had any thing to do with JD losing his job. Six losing seasons would have more to do with it. Not saying it was all on JD but I have been around a long time and money is all that matters when it comes down to it. If turned around and we had six winning seasons, JD would still have his job.2020 and the resulting shut down of the minor leagues for a year, slowed the rebuild process considerably? Living on past accomplishments. How he managed to stay as long as he did is still a mystery to me.
For me it started maybe a little before that. Anyone with any common sense could see that the window of opportunity was closing and we knew then we needed to start a major rebuild but we didn't do it. We kept picking up a bunch of has-beens to stay afloat with no chance of ever doing anything of great importance. On top of that JD had gutted the farm system and most of us knew it was going to take a while to ever see it built back up.
Well, that's part of what I was pondering. Did they?do we know that ownership was impatient with the rebuild?
Yes, but certaun guys like Winn, White, Foscue, Ragans, Taveras, and others would be a year or more ahead of where they are now, and might have been able to contribute to this being a winning season. I am mainly talking about the development repercussions from the pandemic making a difference in when we started winning.I do not believe the pandemic had any thing to do with JD losing his job. Rat Davis did state that two frontline starters and a middle of the lineup bat would be the targets this offseason.
They must have. In the last six unsuccessful seasons, it was way past time to rebuild. Seems obvious that a rebuild was way past due and owners were not going to continue funding another loseing season sitting on their hands.Well, that's part of what I was pondering. Did they?

Seems reasonable to think he saw this year's rebuild going no place and did not want any further delays. Obvious Ray was not happy. He said he wanted two front line pitchers and a bat added in middle of line up and he wasn't satisfied with why we had not accomplished it. May be wrong but it is what it is.Doesn't seem likely. If you're going to fire a guy because you think a rebuild took too long to get going, you don't do it when the rebuild is in full swing.
