It never made sense to put Scherzer back into the rotation at the expense of giving Leiter more starts. It would be dumb to assume Scherzer could stay healthy since he hasn't been able to do that in over a year.
Don’t think it matters. Leiter has always been going to pitch

FWIW I am far from being a Pollyanna on the Acura Scherzer debate

What if we traded a guy like Wyatt or Evan or both for Scherzer.

Would that be considered a winning trade?

Question I put out there

The whole discussion about the Scherzer trade usually leaves out a significant part. That part is which pitcher could we have gotten to help us instead of Scherzer. Especially, pitchers without the glamour of a name like Scherzer. Folks like to say we would not have gone to the postseason without trading for Scherzer, but that isn't necessarily so. It all would have depended on the alternative. It could have been what was perceived as a lesser pitcher who might have given us just as much as Scherzer did last year, but more in the postseason and during this year.

No, because it wasn't a case of Scherzer or no one. That would have been a bad trade. The trade we made was bad enough.

He was acquired on July 29th last year and pitched in 8 games. Pitched in 9 games this year. Bad trade for what the Rangers gave up.

The Rangers gave up a hefty price for Scherzer. Had they given up that same thing for Chapman, they wouldn't have needed to trade for Scherzer. That is, the wouldn't have needed to trade for Max, if they had simply put Ragans into the starting rotation. And, we would have been a lot better off last year, this year, and the next few years.

From TR Sullivan:

Note to Max Scherzer....even Nolan Ryan figured out when it was time.

Round Rock has been playing the Tacoma Rainers this week. The Rainers have an old fried of ours playing for them.

Nick Sliak has 1 hit tonight and is hitting .312 this year with an OPS of .857.

Two more hits and a walk tonight from Blaine Crim. He plays one more game for the Express, tomorrow. It most likely will be his final game in the Rangers organization.

That should read "Nick Solak."

Acuna hit his third homer today. I knew that was a bad trade when it was announced. Same with the Ragans trade.
Terrible job by CY to let that kind of talent go twice. He must be the laughing stock amongst all the GM’s in baseball.

Because of the WS win he's going to be excused for every bad trade he's made or will make with Texas. But giving up Ragans without properly developing him was bad enough. The Acuna trade for a has been pitcher is actually worse.

CY isn't all that. Got lucky with Monty and Chapman helped us during the season. But he gave up a lot of quality in Ragans, Acuna, and Saggese.

But...winning it all sorta clears the deck I suppose.

True. Plus he’ll get even more slack because it was the FIRST WS for the franchise.
