No help from owners or the farm leaves trading but who. I think Lynn and Gallo.
If we could get a good start out of Minor you might have a team willing to deal for him. You just won't get nearly as much as we could have gotten this past offseason.

I wonder if any teams will structure a deal with a player to be named later, where who that player is, depends on if there is a postseason or not? Maybe they give up a their #3 prospect if there is a postseason, but if the season gets cancelled they give up their #10 prospect.

Padres have hit 5 HRs including...you guessed it, a grand slam against the Astros.

It seems to me that a contending team would want to acquire talent now instead of waiting until the 31st. In our case the team trading with us could get two additional starts from Lynn by acquiring him tomorrow.

yes thank god

I also think this is the last year we pay fielder. Not like it will make a difference to these tightwad owners tho. They’re afraid to pay for talent.

Not a chance of trading him. Actually we are loaded with too many players not likely trade worthy

I would like to see Cody, Hearn and Allard in the rotation for the rest of the year. Hearn and Cody might need to tag-team on starts at first until they get stretched out.

Might as well. Get these guys the experience they need.

Who else is looking forward to the “ youth movement” in 1-2 weeks when we continue to trot Odor out there every single day?

Anthony Rendon rocking a 188wrc+ for the year.

Weren't people mocking that signing just two weeks ago? LMAO

Not mocking, saying it was an overpay, and glad the Rangers aren't the one's paying it.

Haven't changed my mind about that either.

Agree and the Angels are one of the worst run organizations in baseball. They make one stupid contract after another and none of it has to do with pitching.

I'm with you on this one. Oder A-Rod Choo Fielder Hamilton Pujols Trout are all contracts of huge amounts that lead to misery before they were complete. Owners need to stop and spend more wisely. More does not always mean better.

I see it as being wise enough to know who to spend it on and who not to spend it on. If someone looks at it as an "either/or" choice then they are either wanting their team to be miserly or they see the team as being foolish in spending too much. I think a wise GM has to take each player who is going to get a big contract individually. Just because Prince, GMJ, and Wells were bad contracts, it doesn't mean other guys who got just as much or more were given bad contracts.

Then there is the whole thing about even wise decisions working out poorly and poor decisions working out well sometimes.

With the health factor being weighed, I will always favor giving proven hitters top of the market contracts, but not nearly as much with pitchers.

The problem with this team is that it refuses to pay for great players and it continues to not be able to develop great players as of late. Both problems have to be fixed before we can win a WS. Not having one problem fixed does not negate the importance of fixing the other problem. They can try a work around by hoping to find several guys like Lynn, but that is a pipe dream. Sometimes you will find a Lynn, but other times you will find a Lyles. That plan will not work out overall, even if it does work occasionally on a player or two every five to ten years.
