Here is what MLBTR projects for the arbitration salary figures for the Rangers in 2024.

Rangers (10)
These numbers are not included in the Sportrac salary figures that I posted a few weeks ago. Those who aren't yet eligible for arbitration didn't have their salaries included then either. So, all of their salaries would have to be subtracted from the amount Slortrac gave for the amount we are currently under for luxury tax purposes.

Have to think part of Lowes slide is due to his Moms health concerns. Takes away his focus

Sportrac estimates the Rangers are about $55 million under the Luxury Tax Threshold for 2024. That doesn't include the arbitration figures that are still to come. So arbitration and free agency combined will most likely be under $55 million to allow wiggle room for deadline additions.

If they add the right relievers that might just about do it for offsesson spending.

Maybe, but a few weeks ago I looked and his season numbers were extremely close to what they were 2 years ago. Hard to tell, though.

It looks like of we don't trade any veterans that at least $25 million of the $55 million we are under will be taken up by arbitration salaries. Then you have to add a few million for players not eligible for arbitration yet.

There is not going to be much available to spend without trading off a couple of veterans.

So how many would you trade and who?

And has the Rangers indicated that they are worried about the luxury cap

They have never been over the cap. I would imagine they would go over at the trade deadline if they have an emergency type situation, like Seager having a season-ending injury. I doubt they would purposely go over in the offseason and most likely would leave a little wiggle room for an in-season addition.

That would all depend on what the other plans were.

Leody is an easy choice, but if they got overwhelmed with an offer for Adolis, that would change. Langford makes an outfielder available to trade if they so desire.

The next logical choice would be Lowe as has been discussed on here several times.

I’ve been pushing trading Taveras because of Langford and Carter who I project in LF and CF respectfully in 2024 but I don’t see them trading Garcia before the 2024-25 offseason at the earliest.
Who’s going to replace Lowe in the field or at the plate? Crim & Foscue & Duran together might give us the placement offense but all 3 together are defensively question marks.

I hear far less complaints about Crim's defense than I did about Lowe's defense in his second season here.

There are always a lot of converted 1B around because it us usually a position that can be learned fairly quickly by a good athlete. Gallo moved over to 1B while here and looked very good there right away.

There is nothing to say right now that any of those three would be defensive liabilities. Even the Crim detractors will say it is his bat that they are concerned with.

I was thinking this too last night. Has to be effecting him. Plus he’s got a face only his mother could love.

I never have liked this format.
I’ve already been in a couple of “discussions” around this. I find it really hard to listen to a teams' fans crying about being at a disadvantage against a wild card team over winning their division and having days off. And had the Rangers been in that group of teams and found themselves in the same deficit, my opinion wouldn’t change.
