suspending NFL players for gambling on NFL games...makes sense
suspending NFL players for gambling on non-NFL games at team facility...awful rule, but a rule is a rule, just doesn't make much sense in today's world where you can gamble on sports at any moment through your phone in a lot of states
They should file a lawsuit. Did they do it on break? Can Amazon ban an employee from trading stocks at Amazon's facility on his own time?

Pretty sure if it's a rule, it was collectively bargained...or at least the authority to create the rule was collectively bargained. Meaning, in essence, they, as members of the NFLPA agreed to it. They'd have zero standing.

Punishment is doled out on a case-by-case basis, and NFLPA approves before it's doled out, so no one will ever appeal or win an appeal

craziness-
Yeah it's an awful rule, but like you siad, a rule is a rule..so just don't do it. IT's such a foreign concept to me.
.'activity X' is against the rules and could result in losing a very lucrative career--a generational wealth type of career. Well, I guess I won't do activity X, than

just seems like such a simple call to make, just don't do it. What else is there? Same applies to drugs, guns (Ja Morant), and any other extra curriculars that fall into probably awful rules, but rules nonetheless- just follow the rules, get paid, and retire a very well off 30-40 year old person who can now afford to do those things whenever they want.

You’d think they’d be satisfied with just playing fantasy… for free. We do it.
Then gamble their game checks all away during retirement.

…one big loss and not only do they lose their NFL paycheck, they likely forfeit their next contract.

Millionaires trying to win more $$$ by gambling :sigh: ...it may not bother some, but others may see it as "the rich getting richer."

I think casinos and sports books have proven that the gamblers aren't the ones getting richer in this scenario.

Hot streaks come and go, the house rakes regardless and always gets theirs

Honestly I've always thought the gambling rules are stupid. The only thing you shouldn't be able to do is bet for or against your own team as those are the only bets that could mess with the integrity of the game. I remember with Pete Rose the argument was that he only bet on his own team to win so that shouldn't have mattered, but the counterargument was that the days he didn't bet on his own team to win was a cue to bet against them, so I can see that side of it, but if your team isn't involved in the bet then I've never really understood why it would matter. It's not like NFL guys have more insight than anybody else does.

that could be some people's beef about it. But that aspect doesn't bother me. Every rich man gambles every time they make investments in the stock market, is what it is. Us normal folks do that same thing every time we put money in the IRA or 401K.

The only thing that bothers me is-
the league and the union came together, they agreed that the mere appearance of potential impropriety due to players gambling, whether its on the NFL or other, is potentially damaging to the integrity of the league, so collectively, they determined that gambling on the NFL, or utilizing team facilities in any way to gamble, was against the league rules. So, follow the rules. End of story. I don't even care what the rule is, gambling, weed, PED's, whatever, if you're aware of the rules, and you choose to break them, you face punishment, end of story. The rules may be stupid, they may not even be right in today's society, but they are the rules, follow them, or face the consequences. (Same applies with the laws of the land and people doing stupid shit because they don't agree with this law or that law, but that s different discussion for a different board). IF you don't agree with a rule, mobilize, come together and change the rule/law, but until it's changed, obey.

really comes down to NFLPA not protecting their members, and the players not realizing that breaking the rule comes with a much stiffer penalty than a warning/slap on the wrist.

new rules, new access to gambling, arbitrary/non-defined punishments...a lot of red flags that should've triggered alarm bells. Multiple players have come out that said it wasn't clearly explained in their team meetings last year. When Ridley got docked a full season, that should've triggered every player to reach out to their union rep or agent to fully grasp what you can/cannot do and where you can/cannot do it, if they were interested in gambling.

Think we all all aware that gambling can become a addiction so perhaps the NFL doesn't want players to lose big amount of income gambling. That could lead to a player taking a bribe to effect the outcome of a game.

They're probably losing. Fuck the corporate lawyers that are getting paid for screwing these kids out of their money they earn for entertaining us. Only thing these lawyers deserve is a hole in the ground.

From what I understand with Jameson Williams is he did ask. Did get the ok. And still got screwed by these slimy fucks.

I agree with Treff here.. it can't be any better stated.... Hey the same or not the same I don't agree with certain rules at work either however I do know I must indeed abide by them just as the NFL boys must do as well. It certainly isn't the same coin and right now as much as I can't hack some rule changes at work Im very aware that working where I do has covered my food housing cars travel concerts etc etc for 36 plus years....thus I may whine to fellow co workers in the same boat but I follow the darn rules..

Heard on our local ESPN1000 radio that Fanduel has set total passing TD for Justin Fields odds at 17.5. (He threw 17 TD last season.)
Does not seem like the oddsmakers see much (if any) improvement for 2023.
:sigh:

man, I'd bet the over--if he can't get 20, they really need to start considering alternatives, I don't care how flashy of a RB he is. I'd rather wager on him being at least bottom of the barrel adequate than not.

a few others that jumped out at me:
- Jalen Hurts at 21.5 when he threw 22 last year and hardly played in the 4th quarter most games
- Dan Jones is at 16.5, threw 15 last year with practice squad WRs and injured TEs
- LJax should go over 23.5 passing TDs if he plays a full season
- Trevor Lawrence is +105 to throw for over 4000yds, cleared 4100 last year

a couple of those are head scratchers for me..
I'd easily bet the overs on Hurts and Lawrence can't possibly imagine the reasoning behind setting those lines where they are.

I understand Danny Dimes, and I'd take the over, although I'm not confident about it- it sin't like his surrounding cast got significantly better..marginally perhaps, and only on paper to this point

Jackson however, I'd take the under, I'd much rather place a bet that he never again plays a full season, than bank on a number where he'd need 16-17 games to fullfill.

Always fun to pick apart Vegas preseason number lines. If only anyone new the future and bet those long odds on next years super bowl winner currently sitting as 1000 to 1 dogs...
