It might be more like look what fielder does hitting in front of Beltre in 2014.

Well.... You won't find anyone who hustles more than Prince(while always holding his helmet down on his head, not sure why) but he's slow. I honestly can see him leading the league in RBI hitting behind Beltre in The Ballpark. Either way, helluva duo.

Texas could have used the money they will spend on Fielder to get either McCann or Ellsbury. They would have had enough money left over to trade Kinsler for a pitcher and throw in cash - like Detroit did. That being said....Fielder should be of value to Texas for at least 2 or 3 years. Its those last 3 years of that contract that might hurt.

Who said they don't grab McCann? With Detroit eating 30 million of fielders contact that gives Texas some flexibility.

How is that $30mil spread out? Texas will owe Fielder $138 million over 7 years. That isn't to bad....but it still $19mil a year. I suppose they might still sign McCann....I have no idea what the Ranger's financial ability is.

good trade for both teams.
Fielder could help the Rangers ..finish 2nd to the Tiger :-).

Tiger get out of the bad contract.Plus. Fielder more than tends to fail in the post season.
He failed badly last 2 years with the Tigers. we got nothing from him .. his comments in the press didn't help him either. Tiger fans would have turned on him in 2014.

I like Kinsler in the lead off. Jackson isn't a lead off man. Tigers get Nathan and this off season is a big step for a ring.

Rangers financial situation is in good shake. Big tv contact kicking in this year.

N Ryan gone now? Ranger fans must love this trade.

Maybe they can take on another A Rod type contract with Cano????
Tiger nation would love that.

So you would love a cano-beltre-fielder middle of the order? Cool

I think Tigers win this one. Unloading that contract is celebration enough. Adding in Kinsler and Cabrera gets to move back to first and they will benefit more than the Rangers in my opinion

getting rid of Fielder and getting anyone in Kinsler's league was the best move the TIgers have made.....since trading for Miguel......

FINALLY the Tigers are trying to win something....They sign 2 RP and they ARE FINALLY GOING FOR A RING....

Kudos to the Tigers for ridding themselves of Fielder.

That is something I don't know. But I agree. $30 million seems high on the tigers end, but I'm tickled to death for the rangers as far as that goes.

The $30M payment terms are odd: Detroit will pay $6m each year from 2016 to 2020. For Luxury Tax computations, it should be treated as part of Fielder's contract and the AAV should be calculated over the final 7 years (about $4.3m)... So Prince will "only" cost them about $20m per year....

I wonder if Texas can add a workout/diet clause to the contract. He'll be 36 at the end of the deal. I'd be very scared if I were a TX fan. Hopefully it will work out, but this type of financial commitment to a future DH could be crippling.

Detroit's top prospect will be given first shot at 3B. Nick Castellanos's clock is ticking on team control and Detroit needs to spend on a FA closer and possible LF Platoon or everyday guy.

This trade was about freeing up cash to sign Scherzer or Miggy or both to long term deals.

I still think Prince requested this trade. He waived his no trade to Texas and this happened fast! No negotiations to waive that no trade.

Part of the negotiation were overheard...

Tigers: "Prince, we got a trade offer from Texas, but you'll need to waive your no trade clause."

Fielder: "Oh, really?"

Tigers: "Yep. They have really good barbeque food in Texas."

Fielder: "Done."

Thanks for the info. I was looking for the financial deal. It considerably softens the $30MM when looking at the present value of money and escalating media rights contracts. It pretty much cuts it in half.

As for the workout clause, it is highly unlikely that Prince would re-open negotiations with an above-market contract unless he were given substantial financial incentive.

In a sense you are right. His post-BoSox words made it a priority to send him packing. With his personal situation and tax benefit in the move, it was probably easy to convince him to accept.
