Preseason Week 3: Pats vs. Lions Gamethread

Overall takeaways:

Our number one defense looked solid. They were put in tough positions the entire first half and minimized the lions capitalizing. However, Calvin Johnson did not play and Reggie bush was able to be very effective.

On offense, ball control. They moved the ball effectively, but kept putting the ball on the ground. Brady's interception was an awful decision. I am still very confident with the play of both Dobson and Thompkins.

Depth was bad. It got out of hand fast once the starters left.

The patriots were well outmatched in intensity. They played like a preseason game; the lions played like it was the Super Bowl. Even despite that and the turnovers, we were on good shape going into the half.

I fully expect a few eggs like this in the regular season. This is a young team and are not established enough to be consistent IMO.

Belichick has perfect fodder to scare the hell out of this team and really emphasize ball control and the final number on the scoreboard, even if they weren't too tightly related today. He is a great motivator and with a young team like this that matters more than with a veteran team.

Not sure about Dobson, but Thompkins is the real deal. I think JDM was telling you guys that a couple of weeks ago.

I'm still higher on Dobson. I'm not the one who was reading nailing the Thompkins point home, though.

focus that energy against the pats against all teams you play in the reg season playoffs the lions could make some noise. pats are all business when the games count, lions need to learn when to turn it on and when not to. theres no point playing the pats in the preseason as hard as you do. it doesnt prove anything. lions need to be a smarter football team and do it when it counts. they have lots of talent but seem to not have focus.

Well living here in sunny Florida I did not get the game. But Jesus Christ Briz this was more about the Pats shitty play from what I have read and less about the Lions great play. Week three preseason is considered by most the week to test the waters, see where you are, looks like this defense ( secondary ) and fundementals are a major concern.

I did not get to see the game. It was on 9:00 AM. I was in a meeting. Sounds like I didn't miss much, maybe the meeting was better?

It wasn't that bad. Turnovers in the first half were bad, but we went into the half 16-3, so the defense didn't play bad. It only got ugly when the depth came in.
