we know for sure a team would take Love for half a season not knowing he would stay? OK...maybe throw in an extrme when you reply.

I actually get ripped for calling people out on mistakes...but I enjoy it, too. admittedly, I sometimes go too far knowing many wont own up to their errors.

Yes. 100% for sure.

The following trades went down last 2 years:

1) Marcus Morris (on expiring contract) + IT (waived)
For a 1st round pick, a 2nd and a pick swap option

Why would the Clippers give up this much? Because Morris is a good player (not as good as Kevin Love) and they are trying to win this year. They can worry about trying to resign him this summer

2) Alec Burks and Glen Robinson III- both on cheap 1 year deals traded to the 6ers for 3 2nd round picks

3) Drummond (expiring) to Cavs
for John Henson, Knight and a 2nd round pick

Admittedly, this return is crap, but it represents the absolute floor in return value. And the Pistons did get an asset while taking back 2 expiring contracts. I do not believe Love can return an asset currently unless the Cavs also take back bad contract(s)

2019

1) Sixers get Tobias Harris (expiring contract) + Boban and Mike Scott (also expiring)
For Shamet (good young prospect) Chandler, Muscala (salary Filler) 2 1st round picks and 2 second round picks

2)Sixers get Jimmy Butler (expiring) + Justin Patton (filler)
For Covington (good player on team friendly deal) Saric (talented player on rookie deal) + 2nd round pick

I could go back further if you want, but the point is that these types of deals happen EVERY SINGLE YEAR in the NBA. Good players - star players on expiring contracts have significant trade value for contenders. There 100% for sure would have been a market for Kevin Love if he were on an expiring deal.

Your unwillingness to admit this just makes you look bad at this point.

But you keep making it only about contenders. what about other teams? For instance, while he was in Minny a team like the cavs wanted him pre lebron, but no way they'd deal for him without knowing they'd have him more than half a season.

Go ahead and come up with 40 more examples...it will not change until you understand that simple point.

No.

The point is there would have been a market for him. That is all that matters. Right now, there does not really appear to be much of one.

So, his trade value is lower. It is that simple. And that is the point. A logical person would look at past deals for good players on expiring contracts and recognize that there most definitely is a market for these guys.

It is completely irrelevant that not every team would have been interested. Some teams would have.

A non-contender just traded for Drummond this year. And they gave a very early 2nd round pick which isn’t much different from a late first.

Lastly, your point about the original Love trade to Cleveland is also incorrect. The Cavs would have still been willing to trade for Love without an extension agreement in place. They just wouldn’t have traded Wiggins for Love without a good faith promise that the extension agreement was in place. Their price would have been less.

Back in 2014 an extension helped his value. Today it does the opposite because Love is 4 years older and a lot less valuable.

You know, just like everybody outside of the Cleveland homers said back in 2018 when they signed the deal.

This is a battle of opinions, about a hypothetical. Some opinions are logical and fairly accurate, others are emotional and idiotic. In this case, yours is the latter.
