I heard Booker say he played at 355 pounds last year. He down to 325 or 330 now. The big thing I noticed with Booker is the guy is obviously huge and he got that serious length with those arms. He swats line backers and defensive backs out of his way. He overwhelms defensive lineman. I'm good with this.

Being in top shape will help him in pulling, which was not his strong suit. If you're right there in front of him though, you're getting rooted out

Haha
I never thought for a second the Cowboys would take him. Think about it in retrospect though...make the offense Lamb, Pickens and Turpin on the outside and make Warren the TE. Or take Turpin out on 2 TE sets and have Warren and Ferguson as the two TE's. I love Booker, but I can find a guard quicker than a mismatch like that kid
I loved Warren as a prospect. But my wish was for them to draft out of a small group of lineman. On my list was the Missouri OT,Kenneth Grant,Nolen,Simmons and Booker. So I was pleasantly surprised when they went Booker . I wanted Ravel in round two. I was disgusted when Simmons dropped to the Chiefs. Thankfully they did not reach for a receiver or RB in round one. I think the roster will be better as long as there are fewer injuries and Diggs and Overshown return.

Yes, im sure not complaining about Booker, he is a great pick. I do believe Grant would have made a bigger impact for us, but I'll take a walk in starter anytime.
The roster does look much improved. It's really a head scratcher as to why Jerry and Stephen took a pass on participating last offseason. It's almost like Jerry wanted to fire Mac after the GB debacle, but didn't have the stones to do it because the media would have killed him for hanging on to KG for so long but cutting a guy that had three straight 12 win seasons, so they decided to sabotage his roster. Sounds crazy but it is Jerry we are talking about

"Tyler Guyton has been in the weight room every day. He's working his butt off," new coach Brian Schottenheimer recently said. "To me, thats really exciting."

The offensive-minded head coach mentioned the influence that new coordinator Klayton Adams has imprinted on his young lineman.

Said Shotty, " I think the influence of Klayton, the influence of (Oline coach) Connor Riley, I think that package was so important for us, I think we hit a home run."

maybe just maybe
Klayton will be one of the best coaching hires of the off season IMO

I think the Cowboys need to protect the defense and to do that they got to be a smash mouth running team. Williams,Blue,Mafah and Luepke are the backs I want to see on game day.

I don't want to see scrubs like Tolbert and Brooks getting lots of snaps. I want to see Lamb,Pickens and Turp get all the snaps. Play action time.

I think if you're serious about making this offense hard to stop...SERIOUS...go sign Amari Cooper as #3. Cheap and absolutely perfect 3rd guy with his route running. He would destroy 3rd corners and zones. Turpin would also get a lot of plays, Tolbert can be the 5

I wanted zero part of Cooper as a #2. I thought it was a bad idea for a guy who was past his prime and who neither team last year had much use for.

BUT...I have to admit as a #3 I am definitely intrigued. I really haven't thought of him since we brought in Pickens. If he comes for cheap I'd be all for that. I wonder how much he wants. I suspect he may still want more than we would pay. We can't be giving our #3 WR more than $5M per. I wonder if we hit TC and no one has signed him if he would come here for that. As you point out, CeeDee and Pickens as the top two with Amari as a #3 and Turpin a gadget #4 would be pretty tough on any defense. With a better OL protecting him and those WRs plus Ferguson, I can't imagine us making it more "Dak friendly" than that. :thumb:

I agree on the price, I was thinking $6-8M in a one year deal. He wanted 8 figures but that's why he is still on the street.
The guy has a great report wity Dak. He is one of the better route runners in the game, can always create space. With Lamb and Pickens out there, he would never get bracketed or doubled. He would have a field day IMO

Osa Odighizuwa on the differences in schemes.

" Based on some things we're being asked to do right now, I was going back and just watching some of the tape from last year, I'm like ' If I was doing the stuff that we're being coached to do now, I'm making this play, I'm making that play."

Sounds good to me. Coaching and scouting working together might show itself, OR..Osa was just being nice.

Eberflus is a good DC, but he is also our 3rd in 3 years. I expect some growing pains. Every scheme needs specific types of athletes at certain positions and there are going to be some square pegs for round holes at first. Hopefully we can hit the ground running, however we fair, I expect a big jump in year 2

Tyler Smith on permeating culture.

" I think it's huge for the success of THIS football team. Establishing the culture early and getting everybody onboard is ultimately our goal. Schotty talks about it every day, but we're going to compete everyday. Sometimes he has to pull back on us a little bit in practice, but I'D RATHER HIM PULL BACK ON US THAN US NOT GO HARD. The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl."

I think Schotty MIGHT be on to something myself. No mulligans here.

pretty excited with the draft.
pretty excited with the direction.
pretty excited with what I think this staff just might do...killing the entitlement stench being successful communicators.

and pretty excited with the vision of dominant offensive interior oline play. Three premium draft picks at all three interior positions. It seems Schottenheimer/Adams will shift to more inside run game. The RB competition in camp has some bigger backs with Williams 220, Luepke 238, and Mafah 230.

Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Booker
High Pedigree and Physically Dominant trio.

Converting short yardage plays extend drives and bleed clock, and best of all, they can directly put points on the board.
this staff is not screwing around.
accountability was huge for both Jimmy and Tom.

IT IS EARLY and the real tests will come in training camp and preseason, BUT...an undrafted free agent second year player who dressed for all 17 games last season, AND was paid the largest guaranteed contract ever given out by the Cowboys for any undrafted rookie has turned some heads this offseason.

Brevyn Spann-Ford got the memo regarding open competition. Schoonmaker may be in trouble, hell, Ferguson better snap his chin strap too.
I've read the opinion often Shotty and Adams like to use two TE's. Maybe Spann-Ford is the next Billy Joe Dupree just needed a coaching staff pimping open competition.

Opportunity is knocking with this coaching staff. They have shown this every day to their team.
Players with heart usually show up and the overall team benefits.

It has never ever been about Jerry.
It has ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT A COACH WITH THE ABILITY TO WORK AROUND ALL THAT IS JERRY JONES.

Spann-Ford has been mentioned by a podcast as someone to watch. I was like....who...? Then I dug deep and remembered him but only a small blip.

Jake is clearly the starter, but Spann-Ford was getting a lot of run with the 1's because he will play a lot on obvious run downs, but their hope is, if he can get more comfortable catching the ball, teams wont be able to just stack a run look against us.

When we went to 7-7 yesterday, Jake was back with the 1's and had a great day. Schotty knows Ferguson is a leader who wont get bent if they give someone else some work early on
