I know you mean in camp and not the regular season, but I’d clarify it (and I think this is what you mean also) with what I think/hope will happen is:

1) the new staff isn’t just blowing smoke up our butts like they were with the character thing and will make them earn their starting jobs through competition

2) they will in fact both earn starting or be replaced. But mostly they prove our scouts right and earn starting spots!
Yes, start out as the 1's in training camp. And i agree, despite my ripping of both players as busts, if they develop into solid starters, that would be fantastic for the team. They have both been crap so far though. That's just the fact of the matter

Let's spin that positive wheel.

Hooker took over as a starting safety in 2022 and never looked back, playing nearly 3,000 defensive snaps over that span. He has earned a top-10 PFF run-defense grade (89.3) and a top-20 PFF overall grade (78.8) at the position since 2022.Jonathon Macri, Pro Football Focus.

The Positives: New coaching staff hopefully a change in the football teams culture.
Dak has more weapons to work with.
The Online seems to have more depth this year
The pass rush looked to be improved and has more depth
I think the running game will be better with Blue, Sanders, and the rookie.
I believe the defense will be improved overall. Good job in the draft.
Negatives or my concerns
Guyton, Steele, DT, Tough early schedule with new coaching staff, TE, who will step up as #3 WR, stopping the run, can Overshown stay health. Those are my main concerns.

Very fair...coaching staff listed as positive and negative.

My gut feeling is these coaches feel the most to be good. hit the ground running
It is their time too. I think they are focused on the task.

I said this in March. (Mr. March)

McClay really really likes our new head coach
Went to bat for him which was the main reason why he was hired. Jerry sure didn't know, Jerry is desperate...almost as much as he was when he hired Big Bill.

we shall see.

YEP

My over-the-top homer opinion is:
how after one season so many have come to the conclusion Washington's Dan Quinn's redskins are sure fire better than Dallas. Shit, I remain unsure Philly is the cream of the NFL in 2025/26.

Mr. March also spoke of an interview he had heard where McClay said he and Shotty were on the same page for the team needs.
I found this OPINION on what could be with our late round selections very exciting.

Take sixth-round OL Ajani Cornelius. While we’re not looking for him to challenge Tyler Guyton or Terence Steele for their starting jobs, could he make a push for swing tackle? Asim Richards has the job right now by default, and it’d be nice to more competitive there. If Cornelius can provide versatile depth at tackle and guard, that can help Dallas with its roster decisions come August.

Many are excited about seventh-round RB Phil Mafah’s potential as the thunder to Jaydon Blue’s lightning. Outside of FB Hunter Luepke, whose value as a ball carrier is still questionable, no other current option has a real power game. Mafah could be very important in certain game situations, rounding out the depth chart with his strengths.

DT Jay Toia could be Dallas’ leading nose tackle right out of the gate. Mazi Smith will still have a say in that, but Toia comes out of college with more experience and natural fitness for the role. If Smith gets recast in Matt Eberflus’ scheme, or perhaps falls out of favor completely, Toia could be asked to handle some heavy burdens early. His fellow seventh-rounder, Tommy Akingbesote, could also be competitive at what’s currently a thin DT depth chart.

I said five (5) from this draft.
Now? I'm kinda excited about six, maybe seven.
Competition remains the mission for the new staff.

It also makes you wonder if they have doubts about Maxi

That's a good move. Hank will be the best run stuffer again day 1 and if he can even give us 25-30 plays on run downs it will be a big help

Yeah he did. Looks like we had some fake news
I thought maybe Seattle was looking to cut him or something? I think Hankins looks to be about done any way at this point. Plenty of guys with more left in the tank that we could bring in one way or another between now and the end of roster cut downs.

You thinking Sanders? I'm thinking it's Williams. I really think he and Blue (assuming Blue is any good who knows with rookies) are going to make a nice combo. Williams is a lot bigger and stronger and should be a nice fit behind what I expect will be a lot more of a power blocking scheme this year. My guess would be Williams, Blue and Luepke active on game day and then one more RB on the 53 that only is active if injuries. Probably Sanders, but hopefully Mafah? I think the Deuce Vaughn experiment is done but I hope he sticks on the PS as a potential return man if Turpin gets injured.

I know how worried you were about RB this whole offseason or at least around draft time. I think the OL is really going to help the run game a lot and I mean A LOT. I'll also give you one that everyone here is going to disagree with me on and probably laugh at me for: Steele is a good run blocker when he is right. When he was healthy and Martin was next to him and playing well (which of course makes everyone better) he moved guys, he was pretty good pulling and he sealed guys off decently. There were many times he crashed down hard on his guy and pushed him and opened a hole in his wake. Now he is another year beyond major injury and has hopefully good RG play next t him again. With those three guys all in a row next to him Steele is going to be the surprise of the OL this year on run downs. I have no prediction on his pass protection as I am still
worried about that and that is why he isn't worth his contract but I think come week 5ish or so everyone on here is going to look at him and be very pleasantly surprised with his run blocking. So there's my prediction to copy and paste and laugh at me about later :D

I thought we might look for a June 1 cut. Maybe that's what Hank will be. There are plenty of run stuffer better than Hank out there, just not in Dallas

I’m not sure comparing how a guy did in College to how other guys did in the pros is a fair comparison, but I do think Blue will be our most explosive back by a lot and maybe our only explosive back, assuming he plays.

Just went and checked my initial thoughts when we took him. I still agree with what I said there. Not necessarily “not an early down back” as in won’t play early downs but meaning more the bell cow thing.

I like the pick. Electric and can take it to the house. Great receiver. Not an early down back and never going to be a bell cow back but it's the 5th round and in today's NFL few are. Also fumbles a lot. But I like this pick”
