Not sure how they come up with these percentages, but 9 games into the season and here we are listed with the 3rd highest shot at making the NFC playoffs. A few 'ifs' of course to go with the Bears chances, according to their storyline within the article. Go figure.

Barnwell: Nine teams, four spots, one jumbled NFC playoff mess

This is the same guy that doesn't know what Matt Nagy looks like. I'll hold judgment. Besides, ESPN also puts those %'s in for winning games in their gamecasts...Those are sh*t too.

I really wasn't taking this so-called percentage of playoff chances all that seriously. One loss and BAM! there goes that percentage. But it's Monday, nothing much going on here in Bearsville until the Vikes game. So I figured WTF, might as well post something new to discuss.

Try to fix this:

Anyone know why Trevathan was giving the Lions the L thing at the end of the game yesterday? Seems like he came off a mega douche...but perhaps they were giving it to him last year? In a vacuum, it looked like he was being a dumbass.

Bears & Vikings still have 4 divisional games remaining and the Packers & Lions still have 3 with everyone still slated to play everyone at least once. A lot can change quickly with these divisional games and every team in the division plenty capable of winning and losing to each other.

All six Bears' wins have come at the expense of sub-.500 teams. Two of the Bears losses are to .500 teams and the other loss was to the only team with a winning record. This all suggests this Bears team is actually a 7-9 team who happens to have an inflated record due to a very favorable schedule.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this division plays out.

OTOH, you can flip this and state the Bears three losses have been by a grand total of 11 points. Anyone can spin an opinion to make his argument, but I think few people these days are referring to the Bears as a 'could be/should be' 7-9 team. Not with this defense. It's already one of the league's best and seems to be only getting better.

Meh...Let the cheesehead have his glory for a little bit longer. It's been a rough season on the poor guy. He needs the pick me up. Aaron Rodgers will save you cheesehead! *hugs and kisses*

Eh... play the games you're scheduled for... Vikings have had the toughest schedule in the division. Nothing any team can do about it.

That said, Chicago is in the driver's seat, and it's quickly becoming a 2 team race.

If you're only beating teams at the bottom of the standings and only losing to teams .500 or better, 7-9 is a fair assessment of how good the team actually is until proven otherwise. That's pretty straightforward common sense analysis.

Bears need to win some key division games down the stretch or the Vikings or packers could catch them

Should the Bears protest the NFL for their schedule? You can only beat who's put in front of you. As it is, we let the Packers off the hook in the first game of the season, lost a close one to Miami in the sweltering heat where a missed kick could've won it for us anyway and lost by a yard to the Patriots at home. Otherwise, we've blown out almost every opponent we've had. That bodes well for better opponents coming up as this team, with a brand new coaching staff, offensive playbook and entirely new receiving core, continues to learn what they hell they're doing together.

Saying we "lost by a yard to the Patriots" is gigantically misleading considering it was due to a very lucky hail mary catch by a receiver who's otherwise been invisible the entire season. And oh btw, that one yard would have only tied the game.

Yup.

The Eagles and Jags benefited greatly last year from a soft schedule. Both teams are sitting under .500 again this year now that they don't have a "last place" soft schedule to navigate.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Bears are a team on the rise, I just don't think they're as good as their current standing indicates yet. And if the Bears do win the division this year, they'll get the "benefit" of playing the Rams and Saints in those variable conference games next year...

That last place "soft schedule" accounts for two games. BFD

It shows how close we were, and that was after gifting 14 points on special teams. We were there with the Patriots tit for tat.

This team has been in every game with a chance to win every one. That's a far cry from previous Bears teams.

The difference between 8-8 and 10-6 is a BFD.

So 2 games is the difference between a tough schedule and an easy schedule?

I mean, yer in here acting like the Bears have a cakewalk schedule, whereas you and Minnesota's are other-wordly er' some shit?
