The Blue Jackets definately have the better goalie. If they can get enough powerplays they've got a shot. I'm just waiting for Bylsma's excuse for wasting another season of Sid & Geno. Hey Dan you better get it done, Barry Trotz is now available.
Sorry but......I'll take the G who has his name on the cup.

The same one with the .840 sv %?

Smack talk aside, this could very well come down to goaltending. The Jackets have a mobile D and 20 guys committed to a "slow it down and then pounce" system. The Pens have breakout speed if they can get space. Immovable object/unstoppable force and all that jazz.

And let's face it. Bob doesn't know the Pens, and the Pens don't know Bob. He played one period before chucking his giblets and being out for a week, and the rest of the games he never started. Total wild card.

Should be fun.

I wouldn't say the Pens don't know Bob. Nor would I say the Jackets don't know Fleury.

All time vs Columbus

MAF - GP-9 | W-6 | L-1 | OTL-1 | SV%-.931 | GAA-2.18

All time vs Pittsburgh

Bob - GP-10 | W-5 | L-4 | OTL-1 | SV%-.901 | GAA-3.05

The Jackets do know Fluery, I never said they didn't, and he's totally had their number. But most of the games that Bob has played against the Pens was when Bob was he was in Philly. There have been some significant tweaks to Bob's game since he left there. His body positioning (more upright when in butterfly) and his lateral movement have improved considerably. Another thing he never did in Philly is close the whole bottom of the net - post to post - on scrambles. Unfortunately it has also opened up a hole he never had, pucks do squeak through now more than they used to. As in the Dallas game. No idea how that one got through, he did everything "right".

Saw this morning that the Jackets have recalled G Jeremy Smith from Springfield. That'll tighten the ol' sphincter. But they already have all the skaters they wanted and one spot open, so they called him up to give Oscar Dansk more reps in net in the AHL. Both Bob and Tabasco are fine.

I nearly had a heart attack.

Looking at goalies all-time records on both sides is probably not worth looking into. Not only was Bob a bit of a different goalie, he had a completely different team in front of him. For MAF, although he historically "owns" this team, I think this series is all about the Pens D locking down in front of him. His numbers this year aren't too great, but I can't count the number of times he was left out out dry. That needs to end.

Agreed. Goaltending is the total wild card in this series. No evidence that can even come close to predicting what will happen.

Plus the numbers for Bob are skewed because he played ~16 minutes this year and gave up 4 goals. Take that out and his GAA against Pitt lifetime goes down to 2.20ish. His season numbers for this year were 7.34 GAA and .600 sv%.

All that's going to matter is which one is most on top of their game tonight. And Saturday. And...

I agree with all you said there, 43. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's not like the Pens big guns are unfamiliar with Bob. Sure, he has made adjustments to his game, and he has a different team in front of him, but it's not like they haven't ever faced this guy before. Heck, they've even gone against him in the playoffs!

Oh no.

The Blue Jackets just got the worst possible news. Oh shit, it's bad. This is devastating.

I... I can barely type it through the tears of pain in my eyes.

B...

Barry Melrose...

*sniff*

Melrose picked the Jackets to upset the Pens in round 1.

FUCK

(pull yourself together)

It's okay boys. Put on a brave face. You just have to fight on, and there is always next year.

WE WILL REBUILD

I am going out on my Melrose/Roenick/Milbury analysis limb here and state the team that scored more goals each game will win.

The advanced stats strike again. I don't watch enough CBJ to give it the ol' eyeball test, but...umm...interesting.

Wahooo...... :nutswing:

Now we just need Melrose to pick the Bruins to win the cup. Then that would mean every other team in the playoffs would have a chance.

It's funny, those bottom three guys are better with Jack Johnson - maybe it shows something about those guys?

I sort of wish this list included time spent with him. I imagine some of the data is negligible based on small sample size, etc.

Seriously i would think this.

Just from looking at the ATOI for all three Atkinson has the most and has the lowest % of the three. Then Tropp and McKenzie probably had more 4th line minutes with other d pairings.

JACKJOHNSON CBJ (TOI)1290.50 (GP)73 FEDORTYUTIN 50.8 RYANJOHANSEN 30.5 R.J.UMBERGER 28.0 BRANDONDUBINSKY 27.3 NICKFOLIGNO 27.0 CAMATKINSON 26.7 ARTEMANISIMOV 24.7 DALTONPROUT 22.5 MARKLETESTU 21.9 BOONEJENNER 21.3

Top 10 linemates based on TOI%; combine that with the above stat and it shows that Atkinson/Prout are indeed better, with a decent sample. Shows the Tyutin pairing is decent, because that -0.3 is probably negligible, and that he and Johansen probably not the best. No clue if I did that right. I think so?
