Pitt and Balt SB contenders but not us?

We have a simular team compared to them. Ya, Pitt may be more explosive on Offense than us but what gives.

Do people look at them as more likely contender teams because of past
Success and expierence in the playoffs? I see 3 teams that depend of defense to win games..

Baltimore has proven to be a playoff caliber team and a primetime usual... We're just beginning to enter into that plateau.....

Plus they all possess the big names where ours are more quiet IMO

Hmmm... Well both teams have great defensive talent. I'd say Baltimore edges the Niners out... and yeah, they have better talent on offense IMO. Running game is probably a wash, but I'd give them the edge in the passing game.

This may confuse you from my prior post, but Flacco and Smith are nearly a wash for me when it comes to producing. Might even give Smith the edge. Flacco is way more talented but he has mental lapse too often and doesnt produce with the talent he has. I keep waiting and waiting for him to break out.

Yeah, I'd say that. The Steelers obviously make it look underwhelming, but I think it's probably better than the Niners' passing game.

Total Yards mean nothing other than you throw a lot. Alex could probably put up 300+ yards a if we had him drop back 35+ times a game like some teams, but if we did that we would probably not be 7-1.

What's better seeing Alex Smith with about another 700 passing yards, 5 more TD's, and 4 more Int's with a 4-3 record to show for it.

Or the 7-1 record with his current numbers?

Take some time to look at the pass attempt gaps between the two players. 1,720 attempts for Alex over 5.5 years, 1725 attempts for Flacco over 3.5.

One needs to throw the ball in order to get over 3,000 yards.

Those last two years, Flacco had 489 and 499 attempts. Smith has only gone over 400 attempts once in his career, his 2nd year.
