???????

You are under the ridiculous impression that they were bullying him because they didn't like him or wanted him to suffer. It seems like an unlikely reason considering he is their teammate. A much more likely reason is that they wanted him to show more gall and stand up for himself.

This is why multiple former linemen have said that he should have stood up for himself, either verbally or physically. It's also why there have been multiple fights on Hard Knocks and the teams have normally shown pride in the rookies when they do it.

I love ya Smart, but there's more to this than "bullying":

Whether tackle Jonathan Martin was the victim of bullying isn't the only issue affecting the Dolphins. The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley [ame=""]tweeted Sunday[/ame] that one young defensive player has nearly gone broke because he's been pressured to pay for older players.

Beasley [ame=""]adds[/ame]: "When I talked about anger, dysfunction last week, this is what I was referring to. This issue extends far beyond the Martin situation."

Not helping. [ame=""]This tweet[/ame] from Dolphins defensive lineman Jared Odrick:

Well that was awkward.

Apparently, this isn't an isolated incident. According to ESPN.com, one of the allegations being reviewed in the Martin case is that, last summer, guard Richie Incognito got Martin to contribue $15,000 to help finance a trip to Las Vegas by several Dolphins players -- even though Martin opted not to travel with the group. Instead, Martin allegedly gave Incognito the $15,000 because he feared the consquences of what might happen if he didn't.

It's worth noting that the NFLPA isn't investigating Incognito for bullying, and Incognito took to Twitter Sunday morning to implore ESPN to "stop slandering my name."

Look, making rookies pay the tab is nothing new in the NFL, but when players are being pressured to do it to the point where they're nearly broke then that's a problem. One exacerbated by the Martin saga, which doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.

Two days ago, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, reading from a statement, offered this on the Martin situation.
"I'm aware of this report, and I can say without question that we emphasize a culture of team first, accountability and respect for one another. Any behavior that deviates from that is inconsistent with the values of our organization. This is something that we take very seriously. It will not be tolerated."
If the latest report is true it's fair to wonder if Philbin is out of touch with what's really going on with his team.

Maybe he did say no, we have no idea! Maybe he said no, and RI said "yes you are, or I am going to make your life a living hell, don't fuck with me kid"....All we know is what we read. He was suspended for a reason.

At some point in time it has to be about winning and not what the rookies can give you! I wonder if RI would have tried to punk Suh?

Instead of being a leader the Dolphins poor offensive line just lost two starters! How is that about what is best for the team? RI is a douche bag! And the dolphins are worse off for him being part of their team!

Regardless if martin was soft, gay, or just misunderstood. He was a dolphin! I can't see the guy coming back to that team and he may not be able to play football again…

Stand up to him, or if you are legitimately scared of your safety, the go to the authorities.

What does Philbum have to say in the matter. If he know and allowed, then he is a problem as well

I wonder how much losing Jake Long impacted this. I wonder how he felt about Richie Incognito and his immaturity. Hmm....

No doubt, it's ridiculous that this shit even goes on, particularly at the highest level of the sport, and no doubt RI is probably a sorry piece of shit, but Martin's actions or reactions are suspect, at best.

Children in grown men's bodies...the both of them.

Maybe this was the best way for Martin to handle it. He went to the Phins, nothing was done. Maybe he told them to stop, it didn't. So if nothing is going to be done, you get sick of it and walk away. Who knows what is going on with Martin. If these threats are real, then it was the right thing to do, just walk away from it..

How do we know he didn't?

From personal experience the police (here anyway, can't speak for Miami...) don't take death threats like this all that seriously.

You keep saying for Martin to do something about it. How do you know he didn't? I think going to the team and coach and telling this is going on, that is doing something about it. No one knows what Martin did!

Obviously you have no clue into how bullying actually works and what the victim goes through in these situations. Party of bullying another individual is putting fear into them that if they do try to do something of say telling the authorities then there will be consequences for such actions. It doesn't matter if it is a child or an adult the same can happen to either. Adults are not immune to being bullied. Yes they might have a better idea of where to go for help but that doesn't mean that they will always seek it like I said in possibly fear for their own safety or others.

Just throwing one possible scenario out there because it has already been brought up in this topic. Let us say Martin is gay and RI knows this. Say he threatens to expose him to the whole world where Martin is not ready. He knows his teammates and other players around the NFL will look at him possibly different. He will have the media surrounding him for months on end asking him questions about his personal life. So maybe he was using this as blackmail or at least as threats to keep Martin from telling anybody why he kept taking money from him and doing all the rest. This is just one possible scenario in a very long list of reasons why maybe Martin did not go to authorities. It has come out he at least went to the coaching staff and they ignored him. So he at least did try to do something but it was met with the cold shoulder. This then could cause him to stay away from taking it to the authorities in fear he will be met with the same cold shoulder which then would just antagonize RI and others to come after him more.

After how many months of this? If the threats were real, months should not have passed before it came to light IMO.
