Phillies-Pirates Game Thread.

That was me comparing them to a company picnic.I thought it was darn appropriate. Anyway, how about a Byrd slam here against his old team to celebrate the 4th.

Shouldn't the Phillies be playing at home on Independence Day. I mean this is the birth place of America.

That was a good comparison jvett as Byrd gets an RBI and we are to two runs. Yea SNL, that was bizarre.

Holy Cow, Hernandez threw 45 pitches in the first inning alone. What the hell??

Hernandez has thrown over a 100 pitches. Time to bring in De Fratus.

The sad part is....everyone is playing to the best of their ability. Jimmy is a 245 to 250 hitter. Howard is 235 to 240 hitter. Chase is a 260 to 280 hitter. Revere is a 290 to 300 hitter. His defense is spectacular at times, but for the most part it's so so. Byrd 260 hitter. Ruin 250 to 260. So this is as good as it gonna get folks.

I know Ryno is playing percentages but Gwynn adds nothing to a lineup that's already tame and may have tapped out their talent for the season. He should be playing Altherr every day to get a look at him. He'll likely will be sent down when one of the other roster player returns, so why not give him a shot. Same with Rupp. He's the future so let's play him. 35-year old, .154 Hill's over the hill so what's he doing here. Ship'em both out. There nothing to lose I would think.

I agree jvett. That Altherr kid is light years ahead of Gywnn. As well, Rupp has an arm and is beginning to get out of his AAA hitting slump and is going to be a better player than Hill would ever hope to be. Since Ruiz is concussion boy, play Rupp. Send Gwynn down and play Altherr because everything I have witnessed of Altherr I like.

Gwynn is a screw-up and can't get out of his own way fast enough. Hill is so-so. Don't they see what Asche is doing? Asche is becoming a very good player. Same goes for our bullpen. Why are we wasting time with a guy who throws 45 pitches in one side of an inning? Play the young guys who are getting better with play and get rid of this waste of a roster spot like Gwynn.

Ruf may be ready in about 5 days. I hope they bring him up and send Gwynn down. Since we can't hit for average then adding some power might score more runs.

Buchanan is another who has yet to get a major league hit or RBI.

Revere is on by walk. The hits are few and far between for the Phillies again today.

Nice RBI by Utely to get Revere to third and Howard is up. Let's see if he can get a hit or do what he has been doing here of late.

Bases loaded on the walk by Volquez and Howard is on for Byrd to get somebody home.

Byrd is going eff this up because he is chasing curve balls and lost twice.

This is what we do best this year. We left the bases loaded with Byrd swinging at high heat. I don't know when these guys are going to get it. Looks like not today.
