Gordon has posted one of the best individual WARs recently.. I bet you just look at offensive stats.. Cain has been great this year.. I'm looking at defense as well..

O believe me I know all about the two of them. But when Goldy is driving in over 100 runs hitting 300 and 35ish homers

Their defense can't make up for that offensive gap especially when Goldy play great D himself(at a less important spot).

Gdschmidt is a bona fide top 10 player with a case for top 5.

The other two are fringe All Stars.

I look at a player's value different... I don't think offense is necessarily everything, but to each his own.. All mentioned have been injured at one time or another so we will see what happens.. Btw my Harper thread though.. He's looking mighty top 5 so far!!

Frazier is doing really well. But he's not even close to the player Goldy is.

Oh, Goldschmidt is better. Their OPS may be close at season's end, but Paul will have a higher avg. and more rbi. I expect both to be in the HR derby on July.

You're the same guy that was ripping Bryce Harper in my other thread. Pot meet kettle.. Also 1st base.. Miggy is also a good 1st baseman..

Harper and Goldschmidt have been the top two hitters in the NL this year, and it really isn't very close. I'd say Rizzo is a distant 3rd.

I'm ready to say that Goldschmidt is now the best hitter in the NL. Glad to see that as of now, he's beating out Gonzalez to start the All Star Game. NL first base is stacked. Goldschmidt, Rizzo, Gonzalez, Votto, Duda, Belt, and Freeman. All of those guys could be All Stars in the American League.

Best hitter in baseball in my opinion but overall players I believe Harper and Trout are better.

I think that's an overreaction to how he is playing this season. He's been a better hitter than everybody except Harper this year, but I would still take Cabrera and Trout as better hitters. Having great seasons and have the track record. As far as overall players, I don't think you can quite put Harper up there yet. Incredible start to the season, but he has to do this for a couple years before he is in the conversation. Trout, Cabrera, and McCutchen would be my top picks for the best overall players in the game.

Interesting fact: Who do you think has the most steals out of the 3?

A lot of Goldschmidt vs Cabrera talk.

Goldschmidt thru 531 games as of yesterday

102 HRs 359 RBIs 58 SBs .300/.393/.540 and a OPS+152

Cabrera thru his first 563 games First four years.

104 HRs 404 RBIs 15 SBs .311/.384/.535 and a OPS+141

I would say that Goldschmidt's start compares nicely to Cabrera's start. Can he keep it up, is another question.

Miggy came up at the age of 20. Goldschmidt came up just before he turned 24.

The whole time I was typing that, I was saying to myself "someone is gonna mention age"

Because it kinda is a big deal. Not many guys come into the league at the age of 20 and have immediate success (not that his rookie year was that great).

In all fairness though, Cabrera came up to the majors at at around 19ish whereas Goldschmidt was 23..in other words, Goldschmidt had a lot more time in college + the minors to work out any kinks/flaws in his game before coming to the majors than Cabrera did.
