Think any teams will forego the draft because a bunch of schmucks have declared it weak??

Sure, all 32 will skip rounds 1 to 6, then they'll add rounds 8 to 13 for just this year...

Patriots have to do something in free agency that will allow them to fold the draft into what they have in place.

IF they can sign a LT, CB and maybe a RT and WR, the draft become a much more friendly event. They can then look at where they need to strengthen the team by 2026 and make 2026 their goal year for getting back into a contenders position.

Like I've said about twenty times. Free Agency and the willingness to pay because of the Mass. tax situation can make or break the draft. They've already started extending players and made sure that they are compensated with financial security against the Millionaire Tax. They've taken the correct steps in house. Now they have to be ready to compensate for the 4% added penalty on a $100M contract by making it a $105M contract.

Following the team's 7–9 finish the previous season, their first losing record since 2000, the Patriots spent a record $163 million in guaranteed money to sign new free agent acquisitions. 11 free agents were added to the roster on March 19, with the largest contracts awarded to linebacker Matthew Judon, tight ends Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith, cornerback Jalen Mills, and wide receiver Nelson Agholor.

Fuck that, we cannot keep drafting WRs, I do not agree with this at all, waste if pick IMO.

They could be wrong of course, but I really don't think they are. There might only be about 3-4 true blue chip players in this draft and that is me being kind. So top of the draft is weak and depth of the draft just doesn't look great either. Again could be wrong. Problem for the Patriots is the weakest position might be OT especially after last year's class looked so good. WR isn't as top heavy this year as last year. It is a position I do believe you can find talent throughout, but even there I don't think I have found a WR I have jumped out of my chair excited to watch so far.

IMO, the draft is decent this year. WR draft is solid, IMO.

Isn't last years draft but I think that is part of the problem. People are comparing it too much to last years when overall it is a pretty decent, just not "elite" like some other classes.

I think most WR drafts are at worst going to be decent. Just the level of athletes playing the position these days compared to years past. Like you said it is being compared to last year and that class was special. And I think the other thing is also looking to future years when you have guys like Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith doing what they are doing.

For sure. Hard to find a "bad" WR draft. Although we have seen a few.

The one year where Devin Thomas was the first WR taken in Round 2 was pretty bad eve on paper. Could come up with a few others but for the most part the WR draft is always going to be "good" but yeah we have seen some "special ones" in recent years. I think this years WR draft class is sorta unique in that we have a lot of solid WR's with better then average skill set at the NFL level that may not have had the college career you would have expected and then there are others who had better college careers then you would have expected during their recruitment but may not have the upside/skillset/tools that you look for in the draft. So when I compare some really good college WR's with great college careers they are almost the opposite of many of the WR's who I like their skill set better.

Xavier Restrepo is way underrated nationally, IMO but he will get his flowers here soon.

Guys like Bond, Antonio Williams people aren't going to view them as elite skillset but they can be dangerous weapons in the NFL. Then there are guys like Egbuka and Evan Stewart who you really like their upside and skillset they have to offer but the tape is inconsistent.

I think people concentrate on what they think the potential is with college players and then make them into something that they can't live up to. I think that half of the first round picks of this poor draft will be starting at this time next year. That and no one will ever mention that they said this 2025 draft was poor. JMO......

I would say a lot of rookies from this past class are playing really well. It was considered a really good top half of the draft and so far I think that is proving to be true. Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Marvin Harrison, Joe Alt, Malik Nabers, Bo Nix, Brock Bowers, Laiatu Latu, Byron Murphy, Dallas Turner, Jared Verse, Quinyon Mitchell, Terrion Arnold, Graham Barton from the 1st round have all be impact players for their teams.

2nd round Ladd McConkey, Keon Coleman, Johnny Newton, T'Vondre Sweat, Braden Fiske, Cooper DeJean, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Zach Frazier have all been guys that again are making a nice impact early on.

So I think the analyst were right that the first few rounds of htis past draft would be good ones to produce a lot of starters.

This upcoming draft there is not the talent at the top like we saw with this past one. I think almost everyone agreed there were about 8-10 blue chip players in this past draft. I can come up with just a few in Travis Hunter, Mason Graham, and Ashton Jeanty.

I'm high on Jeanty. As I mentioned in a different post if NE can get at least one OL and one WR in FA, I'd be happy with NE taking him around #6 where NE likely will be drafting. This goes against my convention thought of taking a RB so early. High risk possible high reward. OL and WR combined with a Jeanty could go a long way in the continued development of Maye. Stevenson needs help and who knows how long he'll be around?

Taking RB that high is huge risk. They have to be top-3 for their position and play at an All-Pro level to justify using a top-10 pick on a lesser valued position. I think he could be worth it and like you said having a RB of that caliber would be huge for a young QB. Takes pressure off them and dictates coverages when teams have to focus on stopping the run.
