I'll be honest with you, I love his music. I do. I'm a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman".

You do know Percy Sledge is the original singer, right?

I don't get what you mean. Percy sang it, Bolton Covered it. What am I missing?

the "for my money, it just doesn't get any better" was a movie quote.
V may or may not be a bolton fan, and is probably not.
she most definitely is a Percy Sledge fan, though

so, yeah, she would know that, and the views expressed in that post are not representative of her own views.

For me, clearly the last 10 years has been very dry, although the 80's do give it a run for title of worst decade. I'm not much into pop music; I really only listen to jazz and jazz-fusion. In fact, the only rock music I ever really did get into occurred between 1965 - 74 (ELP, Yes/Wakeman, Jethro Tull, If, Blodwyn Pig, King Crimson, U.K. et al).

Rank: 60's - 70's - 50's - 90's - 80's - 00's

i was the guy that went with the 50s.

i based my vote on my own personal musical taste, seeing as that's really the best measure of music in my opinion.

i know there were a lot of legendary artists in the decade, and that they were vital to the progression and history of the music industry.

that said i don't have any fats domino, elvis, little richard, chuck berry, ect. on my ipod (hmmm yet). i recognize they were good artists and i even like some of that stuff, but its just not the music i really listen too. and as absolutely terrible i find a lot of 80s music to be, the decade did produce some stuff i like.

my rankings would be:

90s
00s
60s
70s
80s
50s

all just opinions though.

I voted for the 00s myself, though I wished we could have had a half decade - half decade kinda thing (like 95-05, which is where I would have cast my vote).

Hated all the Nu Metal garbage that started in the late 90s but that hatred was out-weighed by the pop-y garbage that we had to deal with in the early 00s and the rise of other no-talent ass clowns (other than MB that is) with their Autotune garbage.

I was into some mainstream stuff up until the mid-90s, but then that garbage set in and it drove me totally into the hardcore and metal.

So maybe I should be thanking that garbage?

Oh...and for the record, I love listening to the 80s station on FM just because those are the cheesy songs that I grew up with, not because I harbor any delusions that it was high quality music.

It's actually kind of sad, music will get progressively worse as a reslt of technology. Record Labels are a small fraction of what they use to be and as a result cannot take chances. They need to go with what is selling at the time and this leaves very little room for creative risks that could lead to better, more interesting music.

That and it's a lot cheaper to pay some guy with a synthesizer than to pay an entire band, plus touring costs. A lot less talent and a lot more weekend warriors in todays music. In 15 years there won't be a band capable of selling out a stadium.

Another thing killing the music industry is the down loading of music. Soon CD's will be a thing of the past. I know people who now hate bands like Metallica, U2 and others who went to Capitol Hill to argue against the internet companies that were illegally letting people down load their music for free.

I see what you mean but I think overall the music scene has gotten better because of technology as well. Its cheaper to make and distribute music now than it ever has been before so bands do not need to be signed to large labels in order to be heard. I think there are plenty of creative and niche artists that are being heard now and I am not sure they would have been 20 years ago.

Ofcourse the drawback of that is that plenty of artists who should never be heard are being heard as well.

I am not upset about the stadium comment, I have never seen a stadium show and I am not upset about it.

00's and 80's are by far the worst and nothing comes close to them.

90's gets a lot of hate (not really on this board), but I do like that decade.

Best to worst:

60's
70's
90's
50's

80's

This was a tough call.

I gave a slight edge to the 70's over the the 2000's. Sorry to those who love it, but I've never been a fan of Disco. I will say this however the Beiber generation is gaining ground fast.

There was a kiosk at the store selling the Beiber movie. My mom who doesn't know who he is said who's that GIRL?
