Heard the directors after the show saying they were inspired by real life stories from the Civil War where the piles of bodies on the battlefield became obstructions.
Well, yeah but usually those piles happened because riflemen were shooting from hilltops then rolled down the hill after being shot. The bodies would just pile up at the bottom of the hill. Doesn't really apply with arrows and swords on a flat battlefield.

It's just such a gamble. Like, there were still two damn dragons locked up under the pyramid (who, btw, seemed to not have any issue escaping at the perfect moment ). Plus, the unsullied had already defeated the Harp Players of Valyria before so they could've probably handled the landed forces.

Meh. Television.

Tyrion freed them a few episodes ago. It doesn't explain where they were for a few episodes and why they showed up at the right time, but they were not chained.

Right right.

But like, couldn't they have made their breakout when they started hearing fireballs crashing onto buildings?

Maybe I am wrong but for some reason I thought they flew away when he freed them.

I thought he just unchained them and left the door open ... and they go and bust out the side of the pyramid ... maybe they just like to make a dramatic entrance/exit :noidea:

They had grown far too large to get out the door.

/but yeah, the rest of the criticisms are valid.

Yeah, it was the size that was just a little ridiculous.

Plus, we don't need to give Trump any inspiration for "wall ideas."

Not to derail this, but right now Trump is dropping faster then Wun Wun with a Bolton bolt in his face.

The battle was awesome, but like eloco said where did the Berlin Body Wall come from? And how did it end up being placed perfectly to accommodate the pikemen's formation? Was there a bulldozer just moving the bodies as they dropped to keep the battlefield body-free? Dozens of horses clashed with each other all over the place, there were other horses running around smashing into men on the ground and killing them (a couple of times saving Jon's life in a timely manner), how did the wall happen? I call shenanigans.

I agree in principle, but it's supposed to be an epic fantasy. I thought that battle was the best we've seen on the show, from an artistic point of view; it looked like romantic war paintings brought to life. From that point of view, the mountain of bodies was a visual exaggeration - almost like they filmed someone's retelling of the story.

I don't know how else to say it, I'm probably not explaining it well. Just that it worked for me. I didn't take the scene "literally", if that makes sense? I also loved everything about Jon vs. Ramsey. Every scene. And Ramsey's last scene.

Oh well excuuuuuuuuse me for wanting a little realism in a show about dragons, and magic... and time travel...

oh and people being resurrected... oh and that army of dead people that the guy who is somehow part of a tree is watching...

Okay, point taken.

Tyrion did just unchain them, but I think you're right they were too big too escape easily. After he unchained them, they kind of slinked back into the shadows.

The timing of their bust out does make some sense though and isn't just dragon ex machina. Their older brother (? - I don't know the name or ages, sorry) was screaming a giant war cry, so they came a callin'.

Jon: "You finally really did it. You maniacs! You blew it up! God damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
Tormund: "Forget it, Jon, it’s Winterfell."

That is exactly what I expect to hear Jamie say to Cersei this week.

I don't think it's crazy to think there could be some kind of sub-conscious link between Daenerys either. She's the only one who has any control over the dragons, so she might be able to tell them when it's time to move.

Did they show the two of them talking in the preview? Perhaps Jamie arrives in time to see the whole place burning....
