As I said when they made the move, this was a monumental amount to give up for a pick and a player with 0 NFL experience and it would take a sustained and huge jump for the team to justify it. That being said, the trade was made and as a fan I could only hope and cheer for the best. Thus far the guy is spectacular. I'm not sure that I am ready to give all of the credit for Alfred Morris and the resurgent O Line to him. Shanahan has been damn good at coaching o Lines up and finding/developing one cut downhill backs. Rg3 changes the game right now and makes defensive linemen passive. I can break down defensive tape about as well as any non-coach out there and DVR gives us all this opportunity. Watch the timid nature of get d linemen against him. They are lost. I don't know if be can sustain this and I am not ready to call the trade a win like Elo is, but I am damn sure optimistic and happy with what I have seen so far.

Remember earlier in this thread when y'all thought the Redskins would have trouble attracting free agents in he future. I doubt that will be a problem for a while.

Remember when the Chargers fan called the Redskins a terribly run organization. Hmm....

Probably a safe assessment. Cam Newton was lighting things up last year (stat wise at least) and people here were expecting a huge jump in the standings this year. Instead, his stats have gone down and the team is doing worse this year than they did last.

Not saying that's going to happen here, but given how much they gave up for RGIII, I think it takes more than 3/4 of a season to say it's been a successful trade.

The jury is still out on the deal for me, as well. It was just a lot to give up, and while RGIII is playing very well, he will need to have at least this good of a season every year for at least three years to make it worthwhile, in my opinion.

And I know you're excited eloco, but let's not jump the gun on calling him a top 5 quarterback in the league, since the league still has P. Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Ryan, and Schaub, who have the bulk of their offenses on their shoulders and are posting similar or better numbers and have been doing it for years.

This. Skins needed to get a QB, and they did. Still think they gave up a lot.

Give defenses a year to try and figure him out the way they did with Cam and we'll see what happens.

I was being a little bit facetious with my post above. That said, the writer in that article is giving a little too much credit to the Seahawks defense, in my opinion. They have been very good as times and quite horrible at other times (especially in the 4th quarter). Also, it's kinda funny how the writer used passing yards and not TD passes by rookie QB's to support his position.

I think both RGIII and Russell Wilson are off to a great start and both of their teams are lucky to have them.

The Redskins haven't done anything yet. Remember when Snider gave all that money to Haynesworth? The Redskins have never had a problem attracting free agents. They just give their money to the wrong guys. We'll see what happens going forward. I still think Luck is the better QB. RG3 is fun to watch & it's always good to see the Giants lose.

They were actually talking about Luck vs RGIII on Mike & Mike this morning with Herm Edwards.

The overall consesus was that Luck is more the type of QB that teams are looking for, and should have a more productive and longer career in the NFL. He has carried his team a lot so far this Season considering the lack of a run game, and one of the worst defenses in the NFL right now. The fact that the Colts are 8-4 and PO bound is a testament to the type of QB Luck is, and what he can do for a team.

They said that RGIII will have early success like he has so far, but the Skins are still 6-6 with a weak schedule, and facing teams that don't really have a strong defense overall. The were concerned about the fact that he runs out of the pocket as much as he does considering he's the type of QB that likes to run first before passing.

They also stated that teams will most likely start to figure him out, which should limit his production on the ground, and leave him open for serious injuries.

I think in the long run, the Rams are going to make out just fine with all the picks they got from the deal.

I tend to agree with the above, although I admit, I don't know that much about football. Also, I must admit that I have a bias towards luck since he went to Stanford and I'm from the bay area and love Stanford. That said, I've been really impressed with how good both Luck and RGIII are not only on the field but off of it. Even though they're both immense talents, they are still humble and seem like good kids/teammates. Hopefully this debate keeps going 10 years later as they are both fun QB's to watch.

Here's the thing, DaBolts. You're wrong... a lot, frequently, often. You were more than happy to jump to the conclusion this was a bad trade before RG3 set foot on the field. But now that RG3 is a proven commodity (albeit without longevity yet), you aren't willing to admit that your comments were a little ridiculous given how sure you were this was a terrible trade?

I care not whether RG3 or Luck is the better player, though it can be a fun debate. That was not the point of this thread nor my post.

I understand some of you not be willing to say you think this will be a successful trade. I have no issues being able to reach the correct conclusion before others. ;)

I hate to say it twice in the same thread Elo, but your argument for RGIII is a lot like what I was saying about Fitzpatrick a couple of years ago.

I'm comfortable letting Elo take the first dive and test the water. I'm just happy to be optimistic about DC football for the first time since I was a kid. It doesn't suck that it is the year that I move back to town either. :thumb:

In his first two years as a starter, Fitzpatrick had more picks than TDs. And that was after not playing his first two years. That's not the same scenario as a guy who is top 5 in QB rating as a ROOKIE and has also beaten the single season rushing record for a QB. This isn't a guy who looks like he could be someone in this league. This is a guy who already is someone.

You're comparing apples to shitty apples.

2012 has been the best sports years for DC in decades. Promise all over the place. I'm loving it!
