You and me both. Is he the greatest American soccer player of all time?

probably yes ... still a putz though

i was sitting in the corner section he came to celebrate after goal #1. He kicked the gate and the entre section in unison went "oooooooooh" (ie way to go tough guy)

would have been great if he broke his foot

The MLS All Stars vs a European Club Team is actually an awful format for the league. You take a bunch of guys that don't play together and expect them to beat one of the elite teams in the world (even if it is reserves they're auditioning for spots in the lineup and playing at a high level)? They need to change up the format to promote the league, maybe all US players vs a team of international MLS players?

This

compounding it was the RedBulls coach deciding to spring a 4-3-3 formation on the MLS allstars which tactically will only work with alot of practice and familiarity (and I mean alot ... just ask TFC lol)

i think your idea is good

its kinda dangerous but they could also go league best (MLS champs) versus the travelling euro team (with the MLS team maybe bringing in 5 other players from the league)

The tfc real esteli game was entertaining (its over but still on snet one on tape delay)

The field looks like spagnum moss lol

A real esteli player ran up to torsten frings after the game for his jersey
Frings gave it to him but motioned back to him that he didn't want the real esteli players shirt
back in return lol *sad trombone*

9 months ago Torsten Frings was playing at the San Siro and White Hart Lane. Tonight he's playing on a farm in Nicaragua.

quick strikes in the whitecaps game today.

Hassli opens things up for the caps 36 seconds in.
Chicago ties it up at the 25ish minutes, and Vancouver pulls head 30 seconds later again (goalie shat the bed on a bouncer).

Hassli with a PK at 43rd minute, but couldn't bury it.
hope that doesn't come back to bite them.

Okay can a soccer expert explain to me why Real Madrid or any professional soccer team is allowed to sign a 7 year old?

I know Argentina is loaded with talent, but 7 years old?? Give me a break.

Club spokesman Juan Tapiador said Coira wasn't the youngest player ever to sign with Madrid, although he couldn't name anyone younger. He said players of any age can join Real Madrid, with one stipulation.

Madrid signs 7-year-old Argentine prospect Leo - Soccer - SI.com

pardon me ma'am, that's a heck of a kick from your tummy. sign here.
i had a cousin in the Ajax program in Holland who was 12 or so - thought that was even a bit young to be picking pro's

from puckheads link:

While many of the young talents never develop into professional players, clubs are constantly hoping to strike gold with the next Messi, who has already helped Barcelona win 15 trophies, including three Champions League titles and five Spanish league championships.

Miguel Coira said his family receives no financial compensation from Madrid, but the team does "pay for transport."

"The contract is for one year and if everything works out it can be renewed for another," he said. "When he is 16 years old, he can play in the first division and then the terms are different."

its no where near a professional contract ... he signed to play for their soccer academy ... almost like regular parents picking a prestiguous school

its mostly symbolic in nature but, sure, professional soccer is a bit of a different animal. You could look at this as an attempt to tie a potential prodigy to a youth academy til he would turn pro

it happens all over europe ... the soccer player is an investment and there is no pretense of trying to hide that fact (unlike in North American sports where franchises will tell their supporters that their aim is to win when they are obviously just feeder franchises) ... no matter what age the player is ... you put some money in to the player to develop him and maybe one day the team can sell him in the transfer market ... unfortunately for fans this is what some teams are all about (ie Udine in Serie A).

is it any different than Nike or Adidas basketball academys in the states locking in kids because one day they might be able to get them on a shoe deal???

Ive never heard of a 7 year old but i guess madrid wanted to get their brand out there and it was a slow news day today ... 7 years old is definitely going to be a long term investment

If this kids dad hadn't been lured to Spain for a job the kid would be a part of a team in Argentina's junior program right? Then as the kid got older & better he would be sold to the highest bidder.

Real Madrid should give the company that hired the kids dad a Finders Fee.

Yes, i think US has a shot against Mexico tomorrow. Mexico tends not to show all of their cards in the 'friendlies'. I think US is unbeaten in their last 7 against Mex in exhibition play.
Unless Klinsmann decides to use the game as a practice for new systems and such, but I don't know if he'd do that in a home game (and his debut)

--------

Whitecaps hire their third coach of the year.
Martin Rennie... "already only 2 wins away from the franchise wins record"

he won't start until next season.
so we have alame duck coach to finish the year out

I'd be all for it... There is only one direction his sytems and teaching will direct the U.S. squad and that is up. If it costs a few friendlies, he has my full support.
