Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas!!!! No-hitter!!!
"We were in on a lot of conversations but we didn't find any good fits." -AA, July 31, 2012-2015.Your move, AA
So Tulo and Hawkins are Blue Jays now, and Reyes is with the Rockies.
Why?
Man oh man, just getting rid of Reyes is addition by subtraction, nice trade by AA
Reyes is hot fucking garbage. He can't make routine throws to first. He can't hit for average, can't hit from the right side, can't get on base, has no power whatsoever, gets hurt every two months...Reyes is, all-around, average to a bit above as a shortstop, even this year in a down year. As recently as last season, he was quite good. Given that shortstops have never posted even league average hitting in the entirety of MLB's history, a hitter with a wRC+ of ~100 (Reyes sits at 95 right now and is projected for 101 for the rest of the season), who is at worst an average defensive shortstop and a definite plus baserunner is a very valuable player.
Obviously, Tulo's the best in the league, so it's an upgrade, but Tulo's got injury history, is in a down year, and has never performed at nearly the level offensively on the road as he did at Coors, so I'm not sure it's as big an upgrade as the cost in both dollars and prospects they had to pay.
Liked Hoffman, but they moved him for a SS with term and considerable skill. There was lots of talk earlier in the week the Jays were in on Carrasco and more talk about Ross and Cashner. All 3 have term so if it takes moving Norris or Pompey or Urena or whatever, it's still worth it.Still don't understand the move. Improving on a strength...still no pitchers. Of course that can be easily rectified, but they just traded one first rounder, willing to move another to get an arm (or about three)?

Tulo smokes him in every metric including wRC+ which is skewed to hell already by playing at Coors. I don't get the "not so good on the road" argument - he has a .343 OBP away which is good for second among SS. This gives the Jays one of the best lineups in recent baseball history and a deadly as fuck left side of the infield with Tulo and Dosh.
