Giants are only doing this to force the Dodgers hand - nothing more, nothing less - Giants don't have squat to offer to the Phillies
His defense puts Reyes out to pasture. Reyes became so godawful at SS the past two years that you would wipe sweat from your brow when he makes a routine out.I agree with all this
If people are going to use the injury thing with Tulo then the same applies with Jose Reyes, he hasn't stayed healthy either in previous years - Tulo is a rare breed at his position, his defense is equal to Jose Reyes and the power and overall hitting ability is such that it makes the Jays lineup real, real dangerous - gives their lineup a lot more options
Now, they do need to get a starting pitcher and I'm sure there are guys available even at a lower price that would give them an upgrade, but the lineup is so deadly right now - yes, pitching is a necessity but there aren't very many top of the line hitters available and the Jays got one - so many pitchers are available so they can find one easily

Exactly. I can accept Travis making mistakes at second because he's a rookie and I'm excited as hell about him, but for $20 mil you need to be getting better from short. Tulo gives them that. It's like he turned into the SS version of Chuck Knoblauch
Or Pedro Alvarez. His throwing at third base became so bad he was moved to first. Then as a first baseman his catching became abysmal as well. It's like he turned into the SS version of Chuck Knoblauch
Need a 1B? You can have Edwin for some relievers...Or Pedro Alvarez. His throwing at third base became so bad he was moved to first. Then as a first baseman his catching became abysmal as well.
Does anyone know if a player that serves a suspension for PEDs is ineligible all together for the playoffs or just for the team they were suspended with? In other words, Jenry Mejia got popped earlier this season and therefore can't play if the Mets make it. If they trade him, is he playoff eligible for his new team?
The positives being that these aren't rentals. Just have to be a bit careful because the team is getting older. Seems like most of the pillars there (other than Pillar) are early 30s. But they need controllable arms. *sigh* lucky freaking other divisions where being .500 means you're still close to the division lead.Liked Hoffman, but they moved him for a SS with term and considerable skill. There was lots of talk earlier in the week the Jays were in on Carrasco and more talk about Ross and Cashner. All 3 have term so if it takes moving Norris or Pompey or Urena or whatever, it's still worth it.
Edwin and Bautista are likely gone after next season, the rotation is going to have Stroman and Sanchez in it at some point regardless as well as Norris if he isn't moved. Buehrle is probably retiring after the season. That's a lot of age coming off the roster within 16 months. The positives being that these aren't rentals. Zobrist to the Royals for LHP Sean Manea (a very highly regarded prospect, BA gave him a 55 future value rating, and Kiley McDaniel ranged him the 37th best prospect in baseball) and RHP Aaron Brooks (less regarded).
That's a heck of a price to pay for a rental.
Well, never underestimate the Beane machine. Building up quite the stable of youngsters once again.Zobrist to the Royals for LHP Sean Manea (a very highly regarded prospect, BA gave him a 55 future value rating, and Kiley McDaniel ranged him the 37th best prospect in baseball) and RHP Aaron Brooks (less regarded).

I'll take that right now.To subsequently trade at next years' deadline for a SP rental who will start 10 games for them.
