One thing that sort of confounds me is that they play 162 games in a season, and the division series is a best of 5. These teams work so hard for SO long...and it's done in a weekend. It's insanity.

It was over for the Tigers before we could even get used to the idea of being in the playoffs...especially when game 1 was at 5:30 and game 2 was the next day at noon. Facing elimination in less than 24 hours sucks.

Yep, that was really stupid. They should have at least been 24 hours apart. My big fear was two quick losses. Glad it did not happen to the Orioles but I understand your frustration.

The Royals and the Orioles are the two lowest payrolls left in the playoffs. Orioles with 107 million and Royals with 92 million. The Royals was higher than I would have guessed.

Of course this ALCS will be used as "proof" all is well with the salary structure in MLB.

There's a longtime poster on the WC who's an avid Royals fan and was told he doesn't have long to live.

This is the main reason I've switched my logo from the Tigers to the Royals. I hope he hangs around long enough to see them take the World Series.

He's the BOSSMAN of the WC. Can't think of a single guy (or gal) who doesn't like him. Really fucking sucks. He's helped me with tech issues in the past.

And I know. Just like how Moneyball worked and the rich teams employed and perverted it, there's a double edged sword. Always have to work harder AND smarter than the deep pockets. Deep pockets mean you can patch up mistakes with dollars and cents...mistakes on low payrolls sink seasons.

Not to take anything away from the Royals and Orioles, they played much better than the Tigers and Angels, but I guess that series will probably bore me a little bit

I'm hoping the Giants and Dodgers win their respective series because then that series would be much more interesting for me
