So I need to vent a bit and I'm sure I'm missing something so hopefully people can enlighten me, I'm just getting around to Succession, halfway through season 3 and I just don't understand why everyone treats this like it is anywhere near the Mount Rushmore of prestige TV.

It's a good show, I enjoy it but at the same time it's a glorified Real Housewives. None of the characters are likeable, ok they're not supposed to be that's fine. They cut so many corners with character development. Example, repeatedly hammering us over the head with Logan is the smartest man on the planet, he's always 5 steps ahead of everyone and yet they don't seem to display this in any meaningful way. Tywin, Cersei, Little finger in Game of Thrones you consistently get examples of them being on another level of intelligence, I don't get that at all here.

Jeremy Strong... Wtf am I missing here? He won best actor and everyone raves about his performance but he's one of the least charismatic lead actors I can recall. I get his character is a doltish man child and he plays that aspect well but any time he rises up and challenges, has to rally allies etc he absolutely cannot pull it off. He's so stiff, I don't get it.

I feel like most of the episodes are a variation of the same thing, they're in a room, all the same characters just bantering, talking about lawyers, shareholders, etc etc. The most interesting episodes tend to be when they're out of the office (the wedding, the yacht etc).

The characters that are most intriguing are the peripheral characters, Tom and Greg. Everyone else is so one note and predictable with no clear drive or motives.

I don't know, I like it, I continue to watch but I come away feeling really underwhelmed when comp
Do you think it's because you're too simple to follow along?

j/k I never saw any episodes. I kind of want to watch it, but have felt that way for two years so at this point I am not sure if I will.

I'm enjoying it, but it's not at the level of the Wire, Sopranos, Better Call Saul, etc.

the characters being hateable to me is just kind of fun. especially Kieran Culkin's character.
you look forward to seeing how whichever one is going to get fucked over next.

I haven't started whatever season we are on next. going to wait until i have a few saved up

lmao we did the warner brothers studio tour on spring break ... we were there the day Shazam came out and our tour guide begged everyone "no matter what youve heard" to please go see Shazam because her job depended on it ... she doubled down and said go see Barbie as well

Its weird and sounded awful but the trailers amuse me. And Gerwig is a talented writer and director, so maybe it will be fun

I espouse the glory of that show to anyone who will listen to me.

And I can no longer see the name Rufus without saying it the way they do in the show.

I actually think she is a good comedic actress. Trainwreck, I Feel Pretty (dumb but she's excellent in in IMO), and Life And Beth shes really good in. Never saw her show.

Having said that, as Barbie? Might as well cast me as Stretch Armstrong.

100% serious.

I watched Trainwreck because it is a Judd Apatow film and I usually like his movies. I thought Amy was really good. I like LeBron James in it too. After that I watched the other two and it solidified my opinion.
Stand-up wise I think shes good. Not one of my favorites or anything but good.

I watched the first episode last night and liked it. And thought it was odd, in a good way. I assume it's stays good if you watched a bunch.

Spoiler question- does Maria Bello put on a cheerleader outfit?
