Just thought I'd dump this here - Adam Braidwood is one messed up guy who if somebody doesn't step in could be headed down the Rick Rypien path.
Former Edmonton Eskimo Adam Braidwood is facing more weapon charges after a gunfire incident in Port Coquitlam, B.C.
Just before 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP received several 911 calls about a break-in in progress at a home along the planned route for the Terry Fox Hometown Run.
As officers were dispatched, another Mountie performing traffic-control duties for the run was confronted by a man holding what appeared to be a gun.
Braidwood, a 27-year-old Port Coquitlam resident, was arrested and the weapon seized.
Investigators found no sign of a break-in, but several shots had been fired inside the home.
Braidwood was later taken to hospital with injuries caused by the gunshots.
The Eskimos selected Braidwood first overall in the 2006 draft. The football team released him in April after he was charged in two separate assault cases in the Edmonton area in 2010.
Sunday's incident occurred just minutes before Terry Fox Run participants entered the area. A minor detour was put in place to divert runners around the scene, said police.
The safety of the runners and B.C. Premier Christy Clark, who was participating in the ceremonies, was never in jeopardy, said police.
Braidwood is scheduled to appear in Port Coquitlam court on Wednesday to face charges related to possession and discharge of a firearm as well as breach of a recognizance.
