I'm sick of hearing old people complain about how much things cost now, and how much they used to earn. You can't have it both ways. You expect me to shit my pants with admiration when you tell me you used to make a dollar a day, and then expect me to shake my head in disgust because a freaking candy bar is an outrageous .75 cents. I'm not impressed that you used to get by on a nickel an hour wage, because you also are always bragging about how you live in a house that you bought for $1000. You thump your chest about how your first car was $50. Of course you only made 10K a year, it's called inflation. And no, I won't lower the price of anything for you today, I don't care that a water heater used to cost a bottle of milk and a handshake, now it costs more than you made in in 1949, and there's nothing you can do about it.

A college friend and myself have an ongoing bit where we rip on each other's states (he's from Pennsylvania and I'm from Maryland).

Years ago I wrote a fake article (complete with Washington Post masthead) and took him a "copy" of it from the paper. It was about how there was a town straddling the MD/PA line and how the PA side of town was in tatters while the MD town was thriving. He bought it until the end of the article where it talked about packs of wild goats roaming the desolate PA town.

This reminded me of that article and gave me some great fodder for our ongoing joning. Thanks, jstew!
