So.....How many of you people went out on Black Friday?

Reading stories about a lady in L.A. pepper spraying other shoppers to get an advantage for some video games. There was a shooting in California. Some guy was hurt trying to save his grandson from being trampled.

There is a whole list of bullshit on Yahoo News about some of the crazy incidents around the country.

Must be those 99% of people protesting corporate America business profits.

People are fucking nut's, you can have that shit I'll shop on line. They said there were 1600 people lined up at 8:30 last night outside the Toys R Us in Buffalo. That's insane!

Anyone else hear of any crazy bullshit?

I have heard a lot of it, but I also read an article that stated incidences in black Friday sales were relatively consistent with incidences during any other day of the year. Its just that its a slow news day so if the media focuses on it and paints it as super crazy more people tune in.

I cannot handle the lines and crowds so I did not go out yesterday.

I bought:

A) Bruins tickets on-line
B)- 47" flat screen at BJ's wholesale (was in and out in less than 10 min)

Pretty easy Black Friday for me :becky:

I gave it some quick thought. I went to the Ravens game Thursday night and was feeling pretty merry so I toyed with the idea of asking my wife to stop someplace on the way home. I decided not to because I was half drunk and would have been amused and she was sober and would not have been.

I went out, but we just went for the fun of it really. My aunt and I have a tradition to go out together every year. When we started we were part of a handful that did it, now it's just the trendy thing to do and I just get annoyed. Only doing it for traditions sake any more, because it was 75% high school kids with no money. That and I don't have the patience to stand in those lines. I bought one video game for my roomie at Best Buy, but the line was like 10 minutes tops. No big deal at all. My take on it now: stupid Americans don't do any research before the day comes and assume these prices are bargain basement, but in reality they're not. They jack up prices to put 75% OFF when in reality it's not that much. The same sales were occurring before and after Friday, but because people don't research and are now enamored with the "Black Friday" name people line up and go crazy. Honestly there were very few sales that would be worth those lines. There was one thing at Target they had run out of that I was sad I missed, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Just a TV series season.

not really, maybe for stupid little items at little stores, but not for big items at the big stores.

Since black Friday circulars are pretty well available and online, the non-stupid people would call them on that in a heartbeat and corporate image would be in the shitter, and you would hear about it. It would be online being talked about. It would be in the news. The big stores would be cutting their own throats to try that.
Would love to hear some examples.

now, you wanna say something LISTS for 100.00, that is normally on sale for 70..00 that Black Friday has at 50% off LIST for $50 when you can normally get it for $20 more, not $50 more, then yes. But there's nothing wrong with that.

"stupid Americans don't do any research"
This part I 100% agree with though

I went to Costco late Friday and had the store to myself. I picked up what I needed and some stuff i didn't (a case of Mexican coke) and had three empty checkout lanes to choose from.

I'm saying this for non-big items. Those are the only items worth getting. And I agree there's nothing wrong with it. The public has to be responsible and price watch for this stuff. Instead they go with what the advertisement says to do, and miss out on good deals. My numbers were a bit exaggerated, but that's the basic principle. Stores have latched onto the Black Friday label and are fully taking advantage of it. Kudos, it gets people to spend. I'm just not going to be one of those people. Seriously, I went shopping TODAY and got very similar deals. NOTHING would've been different. Went to Kohl's, bought a pair of Nike shoes on sale for $45, with a 15% off coupon, and got $15 Kohl's cash for next week. Spent around $25 on a nice pair of Nike running shoes the day after...and there was no crowd.
