Bold move by the Isles.

Good move by the Sabres. This could end up being just what both teams need.

Although it looks on the surface that the Sabres won the trade, I like the statement made by the Isles that says we're going for it and enough of hiding behind high first round draft picks.

You don't usually see a team acquire a rental before Halloween - that's a bold move Cotton, I mean Garth.

You also don't usually see a bubble playoff team pay such a high price for a rental. They must figure they can re-sign him, and that having him longer will increase their chances.

I think this was a brilliant move by the Sabres. Moulson has scored 6 more goals than Vanek (I know, I know Tavares) in the last 4 seasons and 14 fewer points.

To get a 1st and a 2nd out of that kind of differential is a sweet deal. Not to mention that while the Islanders are an up-and-coming team they aren't mortal locks to make the playoffs. A key injury or two and maybe this pick ends up being top 10.

The Sabres did pretty damn well here, IMO.

The Isles get an awesome player in Vanek but I'm not sure that it puts them over the top this year.

No way it puts them over the top, especially with that shitty goaltending they still have

Say what you want about Darcy Regier, but the guy knows how to pull off some great trades.

- There was no way Vanek was going to re-sign with the Sabres after this Season, so getting Moulson, a 1st in 14, and a 2nd in 15 is WAY better than letting him walk and getting nothing. Sabres also reduce their payroll by over 7 mil.

- There is no way Vanek is going to sign with the Islanders after this Season. Everything points to Vanek wanting to play for the Wild, and the Wild wanting to sign him.

- Miller is most likely going next, and I have no doubt Darcy has been on the phones trying to get another 1st rd pick for him, amongst other things. Miller leaving the Sabres will reduce payroll by another 6 mil.

- How great would it be if the Islanders finish in the bottom of the League and the Sabres manage to get (2) 1st round picks in the top 5? Maybe even 3 in the top 10 if Miller is traded to a team that also finished towards the bottom of the League? One can only hope.

- Obviously this year is a complete bust, but I'm excited from what I have seen out of some of the new kids on the team, and excited to see what happens in the draft.

- Here's to next year!.........

No really guise, this time it's going to be different, just watch.

The Doobster is guessing that Miller will be traded to the Oilers for either a 1st round pick or Nail Yakupov.

I don't think it'd make sense for the Oilers to make a trade for a goaltender - they're already far out in the standings as it is, it's going to be ultra difficult to make a run with all those great teams out West - I'd keep the 1st round pick and Nail Yakupov and see what you can do in the offseason - you hope Devan Dubnyk is consistent enough to make you think it's more the defense than him that is the problem

I still think the Islanders should trade for Ryan Miller or Jonas Hiller - they're the perfect destination because the Isles have the best roster out of all the teams that really need a goalie

The goaltending market might be more attractive for backups than starters - very few teams need legit number one starters, more teams need backups than starters - it'll be interesting how it plays out

Speaking of Yak, he scored his first goal of the season tonight and actually retrieved the puck (huh?). Such a team first goal, that Nail.

Here's the Dubinski hit.

No call on the ice at the time of the hit, and after Koivu was taken off, the refs conferred and gave him five minutes for "interference" and a game. Puck's right there, elbows down, Koivu's head hit Dubi's shoulder.

Beauchemin?s open ice hit on Anisimov Video - NHL VideoCenter

For comparison, the hit on Anisimov by Beauchemin is in this package.

Two nearly identical hits. The big difference being that Anismov got up and kept going.

The Doobster is guessing that Miller will be traded to the Oilers for either a 1st round pick or Nail Yakupov.

When those rumo(u)rs came up a couple weeks ago they were squashed quickly because the Oilers are one of the teams on Miller's no trade list.

Unless he's willing to alter his list, that idea is as dead as it was two weeks ago.

I think Darcy got good return on this one.

Say what we will about Darcy, but he's always been good at getting return in trades. The problems kick in when he gets a chance to re-sign the players acquired in the trade (Moulson can probably expect $5M+) or using the draft picks and proceeding to develop the drafted players.

Why do I have this sinking suspicion it's another D in the first next year with this pick :L

And Ville Leino is now our highest paid forward and 3rd highest paid player overall.

There's not enough :L in the world to express my sentiments on that.
