In all seriousness those are pretty decent rosters. I look forward to not watching the all star game this year too.

I agree, Comeds. After the exhilaration of watching outdoor winter hockey, I also can't wait to sit down with some popcorn and watch the greatest hockey players on the planet play some hard-nosed hockey!

It ain't Leo I'm talking about.
I mean, sure, Toews has over 200 pts more in his career than Patches despite being the same age and has never been outscored in a season by him, and sure Toews has .3 more PPG than Patches in the playoffs, and sure Toews does it rather consistently while Patches might be the streakiest scorer in the league, and sure Toews and Patches have similar recent GA60's despite Toews' regular goalie having a sv% .012 lower than Patches' goalie in the past 3 years, but other than that they're pretty much the same.

You're completely missing the point. I'm not saying that they're the same. I'm not even saying that Toews is having a bad season.

And wouldn't those types of arguments be good ones for Crosby's candidacy as well?

It's a shame Kuznetsov (2nd highest point total in the Metro Division) isn't in this game because he is one of the most fun guys to watch in 3-on-3 hockey.

Given that his strength historically has been point production, wouldn't the answer be no?

He's been much better since mid-Dec, for sure, but he only had 19 pts with 30 games played. Still decent by most standards, but hardly an all-star year.

How about this non All-Star team?

Crosby
Wheeler
Panarin
Hoffman
Kopitar
Steen
Hedman
Klingberg
Keith
Lundqvist
Crawford

And thus where the problem lies - how many teams are there that shouldn't have representatives? AZ, Leafs, Flyers, Ducks...forced to put at least one player from each team (how the Ducks have 2 I'm not sure) in the game and more-deserving guys miss out.

Doubt they care much, though - nice holiday weekend in the middle of winter is much appreciated I'm sure.

It's missing a forward better than any of the players listed and who's also not an all-star.

How Klingberg doesn't make it is crazy but I guess they didn't want 3 guys from one team and Seguin and Benn are locks. Still, he deserves the nod.

Did they pick these teams after 30 games? I thought they just picked them now

Aren't these "point production" arguments?

Yeah. John Gibson? Really? The guy has played only 15 games.

I guess problems arise when EIGHT, 8, OCHO, goalies are all-stars. EIGHT!! Compared to only 12 defensemen.

Mathematically speaking 27% of the starting goalies are all-stars. :L

They picked them now, and since his hot streak didn't elevate him to the status of the others he still fell short I guess.

I'd take him over, say, Giroux, if we're being division-specific but Philly needed a rep so that wasn't possible, but of the other forward double was Crosby deserving over Backstrom? No.

Having said this, is he an All Star under a non-insane format? Probably.
