I dunno, I feel like the overwhelming majority were pretty much in agreement that it was a strange move for Philly. Some tried justifying it with cap talk and it was a move for the future yada yada, but for the most part we agreed it was a good move by Columbus.

Somebody actually made this argument?

Yes, and I laughed until I had to pee.

NHL Free Agents: Puck Daddys top 15 unrestricted defensemen | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports Canada

Not exactly a bumper crop, but maybe the Oil can spend some big dollars and lure someone to Edmonton...

Some names on there that scare me, especially with our GM under the impression we need an upgrade on D. I hope someone else drops the coin on Green and Jackman. I want no part of either of those guys.

Obviously, I'd love Oduya to come here, but the Jackets have to be cautious spending big money. Johansen's deal is coming, then Wennberg, Murray and Dano not long after. They need to make sure they have cash on hand.

I wouldn't mind Jackman at the right price (no more than two years and no more than 3 million per season). I think he would be a pretty good 5th-6th defenseman while waiting for a younger guy to step up.

huh. I must the only one who thinks Oduya is bad at the hockey.

Remember, my team has Jared Boll and Jack Johnson.
Forgetting someone?

I expect the Hawks to make Bickell available - Man, he certainly cashed in for having a John Druce like playoff performance a couple of years ago.

How can anybody consciously trade for him? He had 5 points this post-season and wasn't exactly "contributing in other ways" as the Don Cherrys like to say.

It gets worse for Chicago because they don't have a first round pick to dangle to teams as a sweetener to take this contract off their hands (not that they're really regretting it).

From what I remember about Oduya he was prone to making bad passes in his own end and he'd cough the puck up from the slightest contact. If there was a loose puck along the boards the other team was almost guaranteed to come away with it.

No kidding, I'd give up a decade's worth of 1st round picks for 3 Cups in 6.

They'll find someone to take Bickell though. As you say, his contribution isn't spectacular, but he's not a negative kind of guy like some out there. And his $4M, while too high, isn't one of the Davids (Bolland or Clarkson) outrageous.
