Basketball players going to the hospital for cramps, football players taking weeks/months to recover from an appendectomy, are they all pussies or are NHL players savage brutes?

quit it ... youre making his former teammate cry

Ottawa's got 3 big ones too I believe (Stone, Hoffman, Michalek). Someone should make them choose.

Tarasenko & Saad are the guys I would target. Even if your team doesn't end up with the player, they force the Blues & Blackhawks to pay through the nose to keep them.

Maybe Marty is still working for the Devils and is willing to give up Tarasenko for next to nothing. Lowball offer sheet that they fail to match? Get it done guys!

Exactly.

And don't anyone give me the "GM disrespect" bullshit. This is a business. There's a difference between Edmonton/Penner and Philly/Weber.

If NJ are comfortable with the stockpile they've built (and can move for other pieces) and with their draft choice this month, would you be okay with them shipping off the next 4 firsts for Tarasenko?

Not at all. The cupboard is almost completely barren in terms of offensive prospects. There are 3 or 4 guys that will be quality NHLers but no top line talent.

Okay, well how about 9 mil lol

I mean, I would 110% offer that. $9 mil for a guy who may already be a top 5 scorer in this league, going into his prime, and all you're risking is two first rounders and 2 later rounders?

STL's current cap hit is $57.2 mil. Having to match $9 mil would virtually handcuff them given that they need to improve other areas of the team after last year's disaster. If you're Arizona (money probs notwithstanding) or Nashville or Winnipeg, why not get one over on a division/conf. rival?

That's a tough one, maybe. I would absolutely do the next level down. Similar to the Douggie Hamilton tweet, a 1st 2nd and 3rd for Tarasenko at $7.3 million? For a team like the Devils with plenty of cap space an no real help on the way up top? Absolutely.

Yeah but that's probably what Tarasenko pulls from STL without any outside bids anyway. It would have to be around $9 mil, and frankly that's going to look like a bargain in 4 years.

Thanks for posting, that is very interesting.

Outside of the comp for the $9m + club, the cost is entirely reasonable, with one caveat (today's word of the day).

If you are a Bottom 5 team, keep your damn first rounders.
What if you're a bottom 5 team ready to leap? Think the Panthers last summer.

Lets see the Isles have 3 forward prospects that have NHL potential in Dal Colle, Ho Sang & Camarrata. After that it's weak. On D their loaded. Ryan Pulock, Scott Mayfield, Doyle Somerby, Adam Pelech & Griffin Reinhart amongst others. They've got three good goalie prospects. Heck Matt Donovan was on the roster all season & I don't think he played 10 games.

So that means I would offer Tarasenko 7 years 50 million. I would then offer Saad 7 years 42 million. If my team needs draft picks we can trade Okposo & Nielsen.

Well, with the caveat (see how useful that word is) that there is an exception to every rule, I just cant see how trading away a Top 5 pick +++ is worth any one playeryou could sign RFA. If you are bottom 5, any one player is not going to move you up that much. Even FLA only moved up to 20th this year. If they signed one RFA last summer, they get to....where? 15th? Just doesnt seem worth it to me if you have to give up multiple high picks.

I said Top 5 because it seems that once you get outside of that range, (a) you are not guaranteed a star player at all, and (b) if you draft Tyler Biggs, you have even less than that. In other words, a Top 5 is a first rounder just like a #26 is, but they are not even close to even value. So if I am in the Top 5, better to keep that stud then trade it away plus more to get one guy who by himself cant make you a contender.

I call this the ShanaPlan (TM).

you have to have your own picks to offer.
so once you offer 'em out once, you are stuck until they are freed up again.
actually, Isles can't offer anything over $3.65m unless they trade to get their own 1st back from Buffalo (Vanek-you very much)
