I figure the Bolland contract was enough to scare teams away from overpaying for the "clutch" player.

But you're probably right.

By clutch you mean knows how to effectively clutch and grab and not get called for a penalty, right? Because with where the NHL is heading, it appears preventing a scoring chance is more important than creating one.

Although I tend to agree, the counter argument is: Tyler Johnson, Johnny Hockey. Skill can be succesful in the playoffs, maybe it just takes a higher level of desire to succeed

Joel Ward has that "playoff performer" label to him. I think alot of teams see him as a guy they would love to have just for the playoffs and would probably overpay for it in a weak-er ufa class

We don't usually break our 5 year maximum contract length for guys pushing 35, but you speshullll.

Could be a fluke, but the last two seasons have been two of his best in terms of productivity, and he played a full 82 games each year, so he doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Still not sure I'd want to give him 5 years, but for a decent term and salary, I'd happily take him in Buffalo.
