True, upsets are awesome in Olympic hockey, I'm picking Team Austria as my dark horse team.

All I know is if I see greaseball Eruzione milk any more seconds out of his 15 minutes it's going to be tough to watch. I was bored waiting for a cab today and I read ESPN's "oral history" of the last gold medal game. They had first hand accounts of what was going on from coaches, players, McCreary, team officials, players that are on the team now but weren't 4 years ago... oh, and Mike Eruzione of course. What did he have to contribute? "One of the local TV stations was filming all of the kids watching on TV, and they all went crazy when Parise scored. And I thought 'Golly gee, that must have been what it was like when I scored!'". Yeah Mike, we all remember that you scored a goal once a long time ago in an almost completely unrelated tournament, can you just let the kids and Parise enjoy this moment?

You know what's funny is one guy from that 1980 team hasn't really said much. In fact he's been kind of annonomous. He just happens to be the most decorated though. His name is Ken Morrow. He's still a scout for the Islanders & a year or so ago he put one of his Olympic Jersey's up for auction.

Pat Kane still thinks he scored on Carey Price in the shootout in 2007 in Leksand, Sweden.

Just saw that shootout, couple really good saves by Price on Kane in that one.

Can't really blame him for making a living out of a moment that was never supposed to happen for a lot of reasons. He almost got cut a few times. Besides, it's the media who keep digging him up. He's old. He's rich. And I think he'd be just fine sitting in his den counting money. It's all ESPN really knows about hockey. USA = Eruzione did a thing once. GET HIM!

He had a pretty decent quip about it in the HBO documentary "Half an inch the other way, and I'd be painting bridges".

On another note, this thread has almost devolved into mad dog territory.

From what I heard and seen, Eruzione is a real, arrogant asshole.

Shame, love watching highlights of that 1980 team.

Yeah somebody I know, recently met with him, said he was a real dick.

I met him ten years ago, so maybe all that time with people asking why he's such a dick have turned him into a dick.

Personally think more attention should be given to Jim Craig than Mike Eruzione, but that's just me.

Hell he had already played a couple of IHL seasons, I never understood why the Olympic committee even allowed him to be eligible to play.

And that's bullshit that it's the media that keeps digging him up...I mean, you can book him yourself as a motivational speaker if you pay his price. He'll come to your offices and repeat for your employees the same story of the one goal he scored.

It's pretty odd that you rarely hear anything from Craig if the attention truly is entirely media-driven and has nothing to do with the individuals

I agree, he obviously prefers to remain low key unlike Eruzione.
