NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions are showing a "ton" of interest in Clemson WR Sammy Watkins.

Rapsheet punctuated his report by putting "TON" in all caps. The Lions have an embarrassing lack of receiver talent behind Calvin Johnson, but Watkins is unlikely to fall to No. 10. That means Detroit would have to trade up to land the draft's top receiver, and that would be unwise for a team with needs all over.

This is my nightmare.

All Titan fans need to be banned if Tennessee jumps one spot in the draft and selects a WR or CB ahead of Detroit

You must have seen what I've said for the last five season. If we draft anything less than DE, DT, or LB in the first round, I walk away from this team. Any more QB, CB or WR picks that shock all the experts and I'm done.

Not really, but close anyway. :gaah:

I would not argue if they took the #10 spot and we got another 2nd or early 3rd rd. pick.

That won't happen with the Lions......We would probably give up picks just to move backwards.

ARE YOU FUCKING AROUND THUNDR?

As long as it didn't "cost the world". If Clowney wasn't in this draft, Watkins would be hands down best player in the draft. I don't see any NFL #2 CB that would be able to hand him one on one. The safety's would have to play 20 yards deep and that is a great thing when you have Joquie Bell and Reggie Bush. Stafford could just see what the defense offers and call an audible to pass or run. If the safeties try and cheat by sneaking up after playing so deep. Just call a playaction fake have Sammy or CJ wide open all day.

More or less, I "wouldn't be angry" is the scenario I'm talking about. I'd give up something like a 3rd/6th or 3rd/5th at the most.

GM Martin Mayhew says DT Nick Fairley needs to be more consistent

The Lions have to decide by May to exercise the fifth-year option on Nick Fairley’s contract

For the first time under the new collective bargaining agreement, NFL teams will have to decide whether or not to exercise fifth-year contract options for first-round draft picks from the 2011 draft, who are entering their fourth year.

"He could play more consistently," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said at the Senior Bowl. "I mean, he's got to mature a little bit as a professional, I think. I think that'd be a big step in him playing more consistently."

Fairley dropped to the Lions in 2011 due to questions about his work ethic coming out of Auburn. Fairley could certainly benefit from being a more consistent figure in the team’s offseason training program.

If the Lions do choose to exercise his fifth-year, Fairley's salary would be guaranteed in 2015 at an average of the fourth through 25th-highest salaries in the NFL at the defensive tackle position.

Lions 'showing a ton of interest' in Sammy Watkins - Pride Of Detroit

At this point, it seems highly unlikely that Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins will fall to the 10th overall pick. He is clearly the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2014 NFL Draft, and if the Detroit Lions want to pick him, chances are they will have to trade up.
It obviously remains to be seen if the Lions will value Watkins enough to make a move up in the first round, but they do appear to have a lot of interest in him. From Ian Rapoport:

I don’t know if they can pull it off. But #Lions are showing a TON of interest in Sammy Watkins. They draft No. 10… & have Megatron. #scary

If WR Sammy Watkins is available at #5, Will They ? Trade their #10, #107 and DT Nick Fairley to the Oakland Raiders for their #5 and #67 ?

If Sammy Watkins was there at 5 I'd think the Raiders would take him. In fact, if he gets by the Rams, I think the Raiders are his ceiling.
