Dave Randorf (TSN) ran into Steve Tambellini this morning in Helsinki and barring a trade offer that knocks his socks off, the Oil intend to retain the No. 1 pick.

lol, they're dumb. That pick could have brought them up a notch. I am going to laugh when they just lose all of this talent because they can't afford to keep them all at once when they become UFA's.

Can't believe those two clowns are still running the show in Edmonton, no playoffs in the last six years (since reaching the Cup finals), 30th, 30th, and 29th the last three years, and the biggest thing Oilers fans get to look forward to every June is the entry draft party.

I can understand what he is saying. the offer has to be knock out. he would trade it but you can't throw away the first overall. what you can do is get the first overall even if its a position you have and trade away a roster player that was first overall that already has one or two years in the NHL and get that upgrade.

could you imagine if they were able to pull off a swap of first overall for Jake Gardiner and Torontos pick, draft Dumba, and then sign Justin Schultz July 1?

I should be more confident in Lowebellinis stupidity like dash but eventually every dog has its day

That's what I'm talking about jstew, they have a chance to make a immediate impact on their team and it appears that they're most likely going to sit on their thumbs and spin.

but what he said doesnt state this? that trade to toronto that jstew came up with would be a blow you away trade. they are probably dumb enough to hang on to it and have all these forwards but until its game 1 of next season its hard to say. they can't be that stupid can they?

i know but youre going all in with the "Lowebellini is stupid" take when he says "barring a trade that knocks his socks off"

yah he said that publically

it can also be decoded as a public message to Brian Burke ... ie "BRIAN BURKE ... GIVE US GARDINER AND THE 5th AND YOU CAN HAVE THE #1"

but then Im probably giving him to much credit for using the media, right?

Would you sign Ales Hemsky to a 2 year, $10 million contract?

While that tweet was very unprofessional, it doesn't detract from its validity...

That would be a good deal, as where Gardiner goes, so too will Schultz.

oh I agree 100%.... but sometimes you gotta sign contracts that you just have to.

their UFA attraction is not very good.

i just dont get hockey players today. YES Edmonton has a fucking brutal winter. but that city is such a hockey city the fans can be more rabid than anyone. they have such great young core. sign somewhere to play hockey its only a few years out of a young time. they can retire in Bora Bora for all they want.

I think that's part of the problem that most Canadian cities have. A lot of players hate to be under the microscope 24/7/365 and that's the reality in all of the Canadian markets. Why did Paul Kariya chose places like Anaheim and St. Louis over Vancouver? I'm pretty sure he liked the anonymity factor in those cities.

yeah its a shame that they would have to face the scope making the millions they make playing a game. who deserves that.

it all depends on the personality type of the player ... some players like the attention, some dont ... sometimes you get a certain player who goes from a city where they dont know you exist to a city where everyone recognizes you and your hockey focus can go off the rails a bit (*cough* David Booth *cough*)

in Edmonton ... in the winter ... you cant hide ... you cant hit the seawall or go for a walk in the park with your significant other or family ... there are fewer options to just blend in when the weather restricts you from being outdoors

I do have a bit of a problem with those assholes using Team Canada as a chance to scout prospects.
There wasn't a better option available on defense than Ryan Murray?
