Question for pens fans.As A devils fan I can testify distractions killed us at the beggining of the year when we got rid of the distractions our level of play changed dramatically.I feel if the pens waived cooke they would be getting rid of A distraction and detramental player to their team. Also Lemieux would come across as A hero and silence his critics by replacing him with a young hungry player.By doing so I could really see it benefitting their team in A positive way what are your thoughts.

Would you still hate Pittsburgh if you weren't a Philthy fan?.....lol....I'm guessing yes...

Hypothetically, of course, I could be a Caps fan...

and is the "Philthy" coming because of my avatar? :)

I think most of us would love for him to go, but he is signed for 2 more seasons at I think over 2 mil per. Trading him would be ideal if that doesnt happen then I am not sure what to do.

I like what someone said of suspending him for the rest of his contract without pay, but of course the NHLPA would come to defend him (which I guess they should, even if they dont believe its the right cause) and he'd get to play again.

problem is I don't know how many people would want cooke he does have two more years and A NTC.I would assume buyout may be A potential option.I know with langenbrunner if they couldnt find a taker waiving him was one of the discussed options

I am not sure what the buyout would be or the cap implications. I think it is probably wait and see in the offseason, but that is all speculation. For all we know Mario is giving him his walking papers as we speak:noidea:

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised I think Mario is getting sick of dealing with him.Personally I could see Mario being pretty pissed with him right now

I brought up the buyout earlier, but apparently the Penguins' cap situation doesn't really allow it. Waiving him seems like the only option since no one will take on his contract in a trade. Unless, of course, the NHL bans him for life.

Which is why I see him being waived with the hope someone takes half his salary with him.

hmm, maybe the league should get together with the NHLPA and work out some type of repeat offender clause in contracts where if a player is suspended twice in 3 seasons the team has the option to buyout said player without it effect the cap.....

Want.

EDIT: Except I would make it three times in two seasons. But yes, teams should be able to claim breach of contract since suspensions imply something outside of playing the game.

Something tells me the Isles would be willing to take on half his salary then he could be filtered out of the league like chris simon. Can't the pens get out of his salary by sending him to one of the overseas leagues like the hawks did with Huet

I know that the "A" in NHLPA stands for association, but for all intents and purposes, it's a union and I don't know a heck of a lot about unions, but one of their main priorities is workplace safety. Well, the NHLPA should really take a good long look at one of their members jeopardizing the safety of other members due to reckless and careless actions.

From my 9 year experience with unions as unfortunate as it is they are more concerned with money and protecting jobs. However I completely agree with your statement.Safety of its members should also be A chief concern as well.

lol..... :spit:

for the other poster who asked: buyout would have half of Cooke's salary as a cap hit over the remaining contract.
so that would be $900k in each of the next two years.

given their large contracts that they need to work around to build a roster, that could be a tough pill to swallow.

Its A modified NTC I think the NHL has a rule about finding a team overseas to make your cap hit go bye bye

just the fact that Cooke would have some sort of NTC, while J Staal doesn't is pretty durned funny.
