I try to avoid that trope in explaining the “logic”, but seriously, that HAS to be the reason. Nothing else makes sense (not like that reason makes sense).
It fits a pattern. I assume he won't be added to the 40 man roster but, who knows with this FO.

Meanwhile, they traded another minor league outfielder for cash

@calsnowskier , your other post made me realize I'm wrong on Wisely being not eligible. I was thinking minor league free agency. This FO is goofy. They just make moves for the sake of making moves. They must get bored easily.

Narrator: Wisely was added to the 40 man roster.

The more I think about it, the more I believe we will get:

Nimmo
Bassitt
Bogaerts

Nimmo takes over in CF, Yaz to RF
Bassitt slots into the #2/#3 SP role
Bogaerts plays 2023 at 3b, then moves back to SS in 2024.

FZ acknowledged that Haarleeen is likely to be traded.

That makes sense if they want to get something for him but why would a team do that if they could get him for free (in terms of personnel)? I guess that really depends on his demand on the market.

I am sure there is a scrub AA mid inf out there who can spend 1/2 a season with Richmond before getting released out there somewhere.

I’d like to see Bogaerts in a Giants jersey. I’m thinking he stays in Boston though.

Cole Hamels anyone?

Saw he was working out for some teams and was throwing 88-91 mph...
Normally I would say yes, and offer him like a 1/8 with incentives that might push that to 1/12, something like that, but things are getting kinda crowded at SP for us. I already think we should consider a six-man rotation. Plus, we have Kyle Harrison rising, and likely to be with us at some point in 2023.

I feel like Hamels would end up blocking some of the younger guys.

Had we landed Judge or a healthy Correa, I would feel differently as we would have been a more serious deep playoff contender, and perhaps more in need of a veteran pitcher who's "been there". Right now, I feel like we are only a fringe, "might barely make the playoffs" contender.

Hamels supposedly is open to a bullpen role (cannot confirm that the source is accurate though), so, if that is true, there could be an opening in the bullpen if Jackson isn't ready. However, I'd rather see the Giants give a rookie a chance to hold down that spot (i.e. Szapucki, Waites, Marciano, etc).

Szapucki doesn’t have any options, so we are “stuck” with him on the roster. He is not DFA-able, imho.

I wasn't excited about his acquisition, and expected him to be dfa fodder not long after he was acquired, but he did well in limited action with the Giants last year. He deserves a spot on the roster. It should be his to lose.

He has the potential to develop into a #3/#4 SP as well. He isn’t a game-breaker asset, but he is an asset.

pos
I would have liked this deal back when the As got him. At this point, I wonder if he will even add any value to Sacto.
Sure, who wouldn't want him then? He had his best season that first year with the A'ss. Remember, he got the Cards to trade him to the A'ss so that he could be close to his mom, who was battling ALS. Since that year, he's been not good. He might be washed...hence the minor league contract.
