The way I understand his contract is that he gets $5M irrespective. If we were to pick up the option, he'd get $13M. Thus, I think $7M is a fair midpoint. He gets $2M more than the buyout, $6M less than the option.

I doubt he would do that. That means he is only playing next year for 2M (he already has the 5M in his pocket; no reason to renegotiate that). He will retire before he does that, I think.

I also read him saying he wanted to retire a Giant. So, we'll see. Not a huge needle mover either way, but he could be a useful RHH piece. Kind of a mirror Belt.

While the Rule 5 did not occur last year, they were technically eligible last year as players had to be protected before the draft got canceled.

Apparently, Scott Alexander will NOT be a free agent this offseason. However, BBRef still shows him free agent offseason to be 2023 (which means before the 2023 season).

Scott Alexander was signed to a minor league contract during the 2022 season, and thus did not start accruing ML Service Time until he was called up (Aug 26, 2022). Since he started the year with 5 years and 39 days of ML servie time, he has not reached a full 6 years of service time, and thus will not become a free agent until after the 2023 season (or later). After his 2022 season in the majors, he has a service time total of 5.080 and won't become a FA even after the 2023 season if he is called up later than July 1st or so.

Edit: most of the stats sites don't update their info until well after the WS is over, so Alexander's info is likely from Jan or Feb 2022 and reflects what was thought at that time - it just hasn't been brought up to date yet.

I did a tiny bit of research, and it is a cut scene from Dirty Work. No word on any back-story of the filming of the stunt, though.

His legs look like they fold over. But if he broke his legs (looks like both legs were broken), that would have been a story, and AT LEAST been mentioned in some retrospective about the movie, if not been a bigger story at the time.

Sucks to be in a situation like that. If he comments on the situation, or acknowledges in any way that the environment is/was toxic, he comes across as being a “problem child”. My first impression upon reading that blurb is that he can be a clubhouse problem. But that isnt fair. The Angels are an unspoken accepted mess league wide. Why WOULDNT a player have a negative impression of that?

I cannot see the Angels shipping him off with Arte Moreno talking about selling the team. I would assume that whatever prospective owner looking at the team will want to know that they have control of a hugely marketable player, even if he isn't happy.

I don’t know (truly, I don’t know…). The Nats sold Soto specifically because hey wanted to clear assets before their intended sale. Why wouldn’t the Angels do the same thing?

Not saying I agree or disagree with the strategy, just saying that their is VERY recent precedent for the liquidation of HUGE assets before a team is sold.

I thought I read somewhere (maybe MLBTradeRumors) that Moreno was adament NOT to trade Ohtani at the last deadline because he was about to sell the team. It could be pure speculation though. Maybe those he spoke to at that time expressed interest only if the two big name players were still on the roster.

on the flip side, a potential buyer might actually like the payroll reduction and/or the addition of prospects and young ML players.
