Guys, we're just going to have to retire the phrases "may be a bit much" and "that's way too much" and so on...

We're in a new era of TV money gushers, and the price of everyone in the game is going higher. $10 mil is the new $8 mil. It is what it is.

Sabey Sabes just preempted signing Torres. Rumor is that Secret Agent Ned with the Bottomless Checkbook was secretly negotiating with the 35 year old Towers for a five year, $47 million deal. Because, well, you can never have too many overpaid outfielders.

When asked why he took the one year two million dollar offer from the Giants, Towers is reported to have said, "I like playing winner."

Maybe I am the odd man out here, but I think the idea of platooning Towers and Shark in left field is a terrible idea.

No. I'm with you. It's not the answer. Combining a fourth and fifth outfielder does not add up to a starter. If this is the way it stays, LF is still likely to be an offensive drag in 2013.

I agree, but Torres is > Peggs/Kieschnick (today). He's definitely < getting a legit OF instead. Deadline deal?

Always. Only two or three injuries to very important players would have this team out of playoff contention in late July. Who will be available? No clue.

I'm not convinced of that. Although, you'd have to say the Giants are, and that's all that counts. Of course, they've also given 600 AB to Eugenio Vélez, and kept Burriss over Frandsen while jumping him from A ball (only 139 AB there to boot!). Plus, I'm putting the over/under line on his first pulled muscle at game 20.

And, yeah, deadline deal? Probably, but I can't believe they won't continue to look for something more for LF before the season starts.

Oh for sure, I hope they are still looking.

Nope, I'm in the same boat. I'm just happy to have a guy who can play all three OF spots at a very high level defensively for $2M. If he is the platoon partner for Blanco come 2013, I will be nervous about it for sure. Like I said in my earlier post I hope they give a non-roster invite to a guy like Brennan Boesch or someone of that ilk (I also wanted somebody like Jonny Gomes before he signed with the Red Sox). I think this signing is more of a telling tale of what a guy like Hairston is asking for (and a little bit of insurance).

I think most so far are just happy that a popular player and excellent defender is back in the fold as a (hopefully) 5th outfielder.

EDIT: also, like gp and msg said above me, I would think/hope that they're still looking for a good platoon partner for Blanco.

Also, don't we expect Belt to get some starts in left when Posey plays first? Or is he just going to be on the bench 1-2 times a week?

I kinda hope they sit him and Posey in a rotation.

Belt is a 1B. Lets not mess with him in the OF.

No doubt he's a 1B. I guess the delta is Belt's production for Chez3's on those days, which isn't the end of the world. Save it for days we face lefties?

Supposedly Josh Hamilton to the Angels. So much for going to a place where you can't get in trouble.....

An in-division move - double whammy for the Rangers. What an incredible everyday lineup the Angels will be putting out there in 2013.

I dont like the Torres signing.I was glad to see them trade him away last year.I hope Keischnick is given a shot in spring training. You cant hit much better than he was when he went down with that injury. So what that he strikes out alot. There are quite a few successful ML players who have a high SO rate.At least he can hit a HR.

As an outsider looking in, I feel the same way. However, there is a HUGE difference between AAA and MLB (thus the mythical AAAA player).

I trust the org to know their players better than I do. If they do not trust Kieshnick with a relatively un-blocked path to roster spot, I have to believe they know more than I do.

At $2M, though, you have to believe that Towers has a guarenteed roster spot.
