Giants signed 2 minor league FAs yesterday (SP Omar Javier and C Guillermo Quiroz).

Neither of them have a snowballs chance of making he big team. They AE both just org depth. However, the Quiroz signing is interesting. He is a AAA catcher and we already have Williams and Monell slated for Fresno. The only thing that makes sense is that he will be sent to Richmond to platoon with Susac. Not a good sign, since Burkhart was slated for that job.

Minor point, but still interesting.

Two questions. First, aren't Williams and/or Monell minor league free agents? I was looking at their minor league records the other day, and they aren't on the major league roster and they've both put in (I believe) 6 years in the minors. So don't they qualify to look around for better deals?

But if Quiroz is targeted for Richmond, are you sure that it's Burkhart and not Susac that's being held back? I understand that Susac is the more highly rated prospect, but he didn't exactly light it up last year at San Jose. Burkhart arguably had the better year.

And Connor:

The oldest “prospect” on this list, Conor Gillaspie is your classic tweener with little left to prove at the minor league level. One can’t help but be at least a little impressed by his contact tool, but Gillaspie’s power and defense lag behind. He’ll never unseat Sandoval at third base in San Francisco, but even venturing to write another team would bite on Gillaspie as a starter based on his current skill set may be stretch.

Looks like a solid reserve to me...

Send him to Braves, he can be the next Brooks Conrad.

A nice review of Kyle Crick from Mike Newman:

My look at Kyle Crick was admittedly a bad one. In a late season start, he sat 92-95 throughout with both an inconsistent slider and changeup. At his worst, I saw a mid-rotation workhorse with the potential to throw 200+ innings per season. At his best, contacts have seen “electric stuff” from the young right-hander including an upper-90′s fastball and upper-80′s wipe out slider. In his second full season, Crick is positioned to shoot up prospect rankings as he continues to develop consistency. I can think of no better prospect in the Giants system at this point.

It sounded like Baggs was going to put Crick in the #1 position on his Baseball America Top Giants Prospect list.

Very encouraging indeed, thanks for the find.

I'd be happy if he can be a sort of John Vander Wal type player (though obviously an infielder).

All I remember from the guy is that he's singles hitter with stone hands. I don't know why, but he frustrated me quite a bit. Wasn't he the one who had a clause in his contract that he had to play in a single game/get an at bat/dress as a Giant in a big league game early on in his career? He just seems like he's that kid who feels entitled to everything, but I have little to nothing to base that on.

Well, he also complained that he wasn't drafted higher - he was a supplemental first round pick (#37). He thought he deserved to be one of the top 20 picks.

I think this is a bit of an over-statement. A one-position guy with no power and no speed who plays his position at a below average level has a ceiling that Bilbo Baggins would be uncomfortable with.

Would anybody here take a chance on Chone Figgins for league minimum? Per MLBTradeRumors, he's been released by the M's. Obviously, he's not an everyday solution, but could be a decent sub/speed off the bench. He couldn't be any worse than Manny Burriss.

As per sfgrtb above, looks like the first Pagan domino may have dropped.

And it ensures Bourne is on the move... Double the effect.

We are a bunch of sick-fucks...

November 27th, and we have (so far) 40 posts on this board today. Were we all sick the day they handed out lives?

It's the reason we have the best board on the Internets.

I think the Choner is done. He's been awful the last two years. He'll get a minor league offer somewhere, but probably not here. Shame, because he is pretty versatile.

I think it's partly because we won the WS 2 out of 3 years here...we're pretty giddy, what's more fun than talking about your favorite team when they are doing so well?

Here's the Upton deal:

Free-agent outfielder B.J. Upton has agreed to a five-year deal worth $75.25 million with the Atlanta Braves, pending a physical, a baseball source told ESPN.

5/75 for Upton. 27 years old.

OPS+, last three years: 106/114/109
WAR, last three years: 1.0, 2.8, 2.6

Oxy. 31 years old
108/94/121
5.1, 1.0, 4.0

Swish. 31 years old
129/120/126
3.4, 1.5, 3.5

Interesting. Oxy won't get 5/75, but it looks a lot more like 3/36 than 3/30.

Complaining about your favorite team when they suck?

I guess there's some miserable bastards that like that more (and yeah half of the ESPN board) but not this miserable bastard.
