Peguero is out of options so if he isn't on the 25-man in April he'd have to pass thru waivers. Based on his minor league performance, he'd probably make it thru waivers at this point.

Kieschnick still has 2 more option years.

Are you sure about that? Pegs was only added to the 40 in '10, right?

So Affeldt got 3yr/$15 mill plus a $3 mill signing bonus, correct?

For 2013 salary total purposes, does the $3 mill bonus go in 2012, 2013, or spread across 2013-2015?

I believe most of the salary comparisons you'll see published will have the bonus prorated over the life of the contract. It is my understanding that the Giants, internally, take the hit of the bonus immediately against their current year's budget. So, for instance, Matt Cain's 5M bonus from his 6 year contract counted against this year's budget, bringing his total salary in 2012 to 20M. Consequently, I would assume Affeldt's bonus will count towards any self-imposed budget in 2013. but you won't see that reflected in most published reports, e.g. Cots. Doesn't really matter how you do it, unless you force yourself into a hard budget cap.

This isn't what you asked, but for "luxury tax" purposes, the amount of the bonus is spread out over the term of the contract (guaranteed years, not option years).

Perfect - I was looking at our 2013 budget. Your answer works well. Thanks.

Giants' Emmanuel Burriss inks deal with Reds - SB Nation Bay Area

Emmanuel Burriss will not be making a return to the Giants after accepting an undisclosed minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds earlier this week.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed former Giants utility infielder Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league deal, according to Baseball America's Matt Eddy.

No, no, no. Agent Ned only "steals" borderline rejects that Sabes was trying to throw tons of money at, by giving them even more money!

And also he signs Eugenio Velez
