Wolf makes sense since his last start was on Fri. He has pitched very well at RR with era of 1.85 in 34 innings. Hopefully we win tonite so were not looking at a possible sweep.

It was on this date back in 1982 that, in his last major league at bat, Mario Mendoza, who will become a minor league hitting instructor, reaches first on a fielder’s choice ending his nine-year career with a .215 batting average. The Ranger infielder’s name will become infamous as players struggling at the plate will be described as performing below the ‘Mendoza Line’.

Martin Perez pitched 7 shutout innings with no walks and 7 k's on 77 pitches. He probably still needs a couple more starts to get stretched out but this is very promising.

Well now that TEX has had to make three 40man roster moves in the past week ... things ought to settle down now. I don't see TEX flip flopping Wolf for Lindblom or even for Perez just to make the odd next start before Ogando is ready to return.

Don't ever remember seeing a bullpen with four lefties in it before.

Baseball is America's pastime. Every season there are 30 books with 162 chapters. Some books go beyond 162 chapters. The goal is to win the final chapter when it is written. Every region, every team has its story. For some teams some of those chapters and some of their season books become very repetitive and disheartening for the loyal but even they come out the next night for the next chapter no matter how bad the book is for this current season. There is after all next year and another book and another 162 chapters.

The last week even in losing a series at home to Oakland TEX 2013 story has been able to introduce interesting characters with interesting stories. Chapter 47 in this year's book introduced us to two more new characters and why we should care about them. Ross Wolf and Neal Cotts.

The outcome of TEX 2013 book is months away from its final chapter and most of us expect it to go beyond the standard 162 chapters. If it does go to the final two then what we have learned so far about our team and especially what we learned in the last few days will play big in the final chapters.

Right now TEX rotation has only two members that we expected to be there when the team went to camp in the middle of February. TEX is 6-4 in the last 10 games. Two of those wins were from the bullpen: Scheppers and Ross. The other four won by starters: Darvish, Ogando, Grimm and Wolf. Grimm and Wolf? If you were a TEX fan who lives on the east coast and are deeply immersed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs ... if you poked your head up and saw those results you would be incredulous. Next week we might see another version of TEX rotation and know and relish that there will be other versions coming soon. Yet what we have seen so far just tells us so much about the talent that JD and senior management have shrewdly and smartly found and made available for the cast of characters of this year's book.

Teams that keep winning despite injuries ... and find the room in the standings to explore the full gamut of their talent in May ... benefit immensely when July, August, September and October roll around. TEX has long possessed year after year immense offensive talent. TEX has had good pitching in recent years and that is what took them to the final two twice in the past three years. This pitching roster and those who may yet join it are the best of all those previous rosters even though we may not have known their names before the season or even last week.

TEX chapters to come will include many of the characters we know well and some we may not know well yet at all. But it is the long story and the first 162 chapters which make us all baseball fans and why baseball is the national pastime.

This team, this book, this cast is what it is and must be to win the final chapter past the first 162 chapter introduction.

Well guys this shapes up to be a tough series with Seattle. J.Saunders has struggled this year but not at home. He has pitched 28.2 innings at Safeco allowing only 3 earned runs including 7 shoutout innings against us back in April. Need I say more about King Felix and Iwakuma at home.
Were going to need quality starts from Grimm, Holland and Tep and some patience from our hitters to get 2 out of 3 in this series which I would be very delighted with.

Meanwhile, the Angels have won 8 straight.... and still remain 9.5 (potentially 10) games back.

This is why you bury the good teams while you can. :)

While the Angels have been hot, they have the same exact record as us in the past 10 games, so they haven't been able to make up any ground, which is nice

I don't think I've seen us lose a game yet this year. Starting to feel a little spoiled.
