And Profar is hot right now too, looking forward to seeing him get some extended action in the future

Probably just b/c he was just recalled and letting him get settled in I'm sure

Huh? Burns not only had to drive up from Round Rock ... he had to pitch Fri night. He didn't get time to get "settled in". Does Profar need time to find a good bench spot?

Am actually very surprised that TEX activated Profar to fill Kinsler's spot. Why start his service time when he isn't going to start?

Without knowing how tonight was going to go TEX had Garcia and Baker to play 2b ... so might have activated Lindblom a day early which would have given them another BP arm to backup Lindblom on Monday night. Now all they have is Profar as double redundancy at SS and 2b.

If there was an opening Profar is going to be the call, I only offered a possibility as to why he didn't start tonight, which I thought a bit strange as well

Or maybe Garcia had already been told he was going to start earlier in the day, and then they decided to put Kinsler on the DL after some practice swings

But don't act like its an absurd suggestion just b/c its not what you would've done

I think your thought that Garcia started because he had already been told he would is probably what happened. We'll see what happens tonight.

That is a better reason than "letting him get settled". I didn't call it absurd just questionable as routinely call ups play their first night up.

While we are at it ... Murphy clearly had the game winner last night. You could see that one coming with the difficulty Ortega was having locating his pitches and with a 3-2 count Murphy was about as ready for a FB as any player could have ever been and turned on it. Ball was gone when it left Ortega's hand.

I still don't like Murphy batting 2nd. His OBP only bests Garcia and with Kinsler out for the next two weeks TEX needs to decide whether it keeps Murphy in the spot or perhaps alternatively moves Berkman up a spot and drops Moreland into the third position. Putting Moreland's hot bat in the #3 ahead of Beltre balances the batting order and further protects him from a lefty-lefty matchup (which he has handled well anyway).

Going to be an interesting week in the next chapter of the 2013 season. This is what makes baseball so entertaining. New characters Lindblom, Burns and Profar. Returning character actor AJ. The two surprise heros of the weekend ... Soto and Murphy.

^^^ Profar was told yesterday that he was/is starting tonight. He and Garcia will share time @ 2B - with Profar getting the majority of the load...and Garcia remaining in the "Utility man" role.

At least that is what has been reported.

"And so much for the Rangers building the franchise's best record through 44 games against Houston and other losing teams. They swept Boston, who came to Arlington with baseball's best record at the time, and they just took three out of four against Detroit, the defending American League champs.

Depth has been the answer. The Rangers prove again they are the deepest organization in baseball. They'll start Monday with three pitchers in the rotation who haven't made double-digit starts in the big leagues yet -- Nick Tepesch, Justin Grimm and Josh Lindblom.

A.J. Pierzynski goes down and Geovany Soto starts hitting. Ian Kinsler hits the 15-day disabled list and the top prosect in baseball, Jurickson Profar, is waiting in the wings.

The buzz in the ballpark should be high Monday when Profar starts at second base. Manager Ron Washington, releuctant to play Profar in key games last season with the division title on the line, said Sunday that Profar will play.

The deepest team in baseball gets to show off again Monday night."

TEX could have kept both Burns (in Ogando's spot) and Profar (in Kinsler's spot) but TEX would be short an SP for tonight. DFAing Lowe this afternoon makes room on the active roster for Lindblom so he can start tonight.

Lindblom optioned back to RR ... good bet TEX activating Neal Cotts LHP to reinforce the BP.

So with an off day coming up do they just skip lindblom's next start and go to a 4 man rotation?

Appears that may be the plan. T.R.'s piece says TEX could bring him back to pitch in the @ ARI double header. That was last night. MLB.com Gameday | texasrangers.com: Gameday

This morning E.G. had another plan that TEX may be considering which could result in Perez making a start. Texas Rangers return Josh Lindblom to Triple-A Round Rock | Texas Rangers Blog

Because of an off day on Thursday and a doubleheader on Monday at Arizona, the Rangers have options for how to handle the pitching staff. They can simply skip Lindblom’s spot on Sunday and move Yu Darvish into that role or bring up LHP Martin Perez to make the start at Seattle, giving Darvish an extra day of rest like the rest of the staff. RHP Nick Tepesch, scheduled to pitch Wednesday against Oakland, could then start the other game of the doubleheader.

Pick the insider you think may have it right. I'm betting TEX hasn't decided yet ... and will not for several days ... and the writers are just presenting their own ideas.

I think the plan all along was to demote Lindblom and jump over the Thursday start. This allows TEX to move Cotts onto the 40man and bring him up as early as today to further bolster the BP. If/when Lindblom (or Perez) is activated to start it would be Cotts or Ortiz who would have to go down. Right now TEX had four SPs and eight RPs on its staff.

Reading from an ESPN Dallas poster that T.R. tweets that Tepesch is scratched from his Wed night start.

Anyone in the Metroplex confirm?

Not sure the options ... Brad Mills?
