Radical Moderate
Not ideal, but the Mariners could give a look at Troy Tulowitzki after his recent release.
Pretty interesting discussion. I can honestly see both sides of the argument.
Examining the wisdom of a Mitch Haniger trade
I agree with bringing in a SS but not him. Jose Iglesias is more what I’d want

First, I totally forgot Jerry said he had to be blown away to get rid of Diaz, Marco and Haniger. I don’t mind the Cano and Diaz trade but in zero way was it a blow your doors off offer or trade.
Second, I’m conflicted because I do think he has value to the team, I have zero faith in Jerry trading him but the team also needs a leader whether it be on the field or off. I can’t imagine this rebuild process is going to work Seager as the guy to show young players how to be pros, and if Jerry is relying on guys like Santana and Bruce to do it then there is zero chance. A veteran minimum like Mike Sweeney ok, but not a vet on a terrible contract and the organization doesn’t even want them. But he also should be back a nice haul because of his contract and since Jerry’s deals have underwhelmed incredibly if they want to get quality prospects in the farm system.
santana to rockies is ok
if they get garret hampson 2b/ss
first as a prospect...ready for
mlb..hit 314 with v6 hr.17 stolen bases..is ok
for a ss in the pac league
along with ian desmond it is worth
thinking about
of coarse a trade with san diego
would have to come next....lol
gamel for cordero.......lol
there lhp in the deal is worth
thinking about as well..peter lambert
Regarding the being blown away thing, I think that more applied to Haniger and Marco. I can't imagine any GM needing to be blown away by a trade offer for a closer at peak value on a team that won't contend until after the next presidential election.
We just need to accept that Seager is dead weight at this point. Barring some miracle, he won't have any trade value. Even if he put up 2017 or 2016-like numbers at the plate, his age, contract, streakiness and issue with the shift massively deflate any trade value he has. If there is anyone on this team worth rooting for, it's Seager since if he explodes early on we could maybe move on from him with minimal damage.
From all appearances it looks like the Mariners wouldn't package Haniger with someone like Seager for contract relief, and it seems like the Mariners probably wouldn't accept a prospect package for Haniger that didn't bring back at least 3 top 100 prospects.
Seattle Mariners: The Trade to Send Haniger to Atlanta
I don't think this would ever realistically happen, but it would land the Mariners: RHP Kyle Wright (#29 overall), RHP Ian Anderson (#34 overall), OF Christian Pache (#68 overall) and RHP Tristian Beck (UR). I think when JD says he needs to be "blown away," a trade offer like this is what he's talking about.
I would say yes to that.
Would be nice landing Garrett Hampson in a Santana trade.
Ian Desmond would just be dead money to even out the deal. I'd rather take on other contracts, but this is all speculative at this point. Lambert or Hampson would be nice additions to the Mariners farm system.
For all his faults, at least Dipoto has me refreshing MLBTR after every task I complete at work...
Mariners receive:
-Edwin Encarnacion ($26.6m + incl $5m buyout)
-Round B competitive balance pick (#77 overall)
-$5m (from Rays)
Indians receive:
-Carlos Santana ($40m)
-$6m from Mariners
Pretty fair overall. Mariners save roughly $12m and land the #77 overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft. To put that into perspective, guys drafted in that round usually enter the system with a 45-50 prospect grade using the 20-80 scale. Josh Stowers (our #10 overall prospect) is probably an adequate comparison to what we'd select at that spot.
I assume Encarnacion will be on the move soon.

I thought we aren't allowed to trade picks in baseball? Also do we get a compensation pick for Nelson Cruz? He met with the Twins I believe either today or yesterday
