That is the quandary they are in though. Cano back to 2B makes the most sense, but putting Gordon back in CF does nothing to help. If they don't resign Cruz, regardless the offense is going to take a step back (scary I know) This offseason is going to be the most cruel for us, there literally is nothing that can improve the team. They won't spend money on or have the prospects to get an ace so essentially the only thing we can look forward to is a veteran catcher and the next Romine. Dipoto and fans can blame Jack Z all they want but Dipoto traded every chip they had to get them back to where they were that got Jack fired.

Jerry won't replace Servais, they can keep bringing in voodoo doctors from the Natural all they want but unless they can get Zunino to get .230, turn Seager back into a MLB player again and turn Felix into a top end pitcher they are screwed there is nothing. Gordon is who he is, Healy is who he is and no matter what they do at DH it will be a massive downgrade from Cruz. Their window closed this year and they pulled a Pat Gillick and didn't go for it all but didn't sell either which is so terrible now. Had we known what we do now the Mariners had the best players available out of any team outside of Machado over Segura to make a killing on the trade deadline. Had they dealt Paxton, Diaz, Colome, Cruz and Segura they could've stock piled prospects that would have taken them from last to one of the top farm systems in baseball in one deadline.

It just sucks for baseball fans as ownership spend so much energy recently in politics over their product and we suffer as opposed to the other pro franchises in the town who have actually cared about their product regardless of how difficult the decisions have been and have all succeeded.

Don't think I could've said it better myself.

This is exactly how I feel regarding the state of the franchise. We really have nothing to look forward to. At best we are a wild card contender next year with a core of overpaid older players and no farm system.

I think it was back in 2010 that I posted a thread on CBS where I asked if the Mariners would make the playoffs in the next 10 years, obviously I have my answer.

while i could agree..and prob will..

if it goes the other way..where they get a starting pitcher....and then win..even with gordan in cf...and a AAA CF off waivers

then we would be eating pigeon..or crow

but yeah..that seems to be where they are a chance at the wild card next year
then a few free agents after felix...then a chance again the next year
all the while stacking draft picks...that does seem to be the way it is right now

in 2013 houston comes from national league..they are basement seattle is next

2012 ,2011 and 2010=basement

they also had a wining record in 2009

85-77 but even if they had 2 wild cards back then...as they do today..they would have been 3rd after texas and detroit
for the 2nd spot..cuz boston had the 1st one

2008 was no chance basment
2007
they would have been tied with detroit for the 2nd one at 88-74...but it did not exist

2004 ,2005 and 2006 basement
2003 would have goten the 2nd one at 93-69..2 games back from boston

in the mean time might as well try to go to the playoffs
and with felix and his contract in the last year...there is still a chance if felix is out of the pen/start..which really should be ramirez as well
and the next year...when the mariners ... have money to spend
but effectiveness should be taken into account..in spending that money..they do not have a good track record of that

with span ,gordan and heredia...im not all that worried about CF..and with lewis and bishop at AA

the two things i would be most worried about is a platoon for seager and a starting pitcher

and gordan can fill in a lot of positions as well 2b,ss,3b cf and next year can prob do even more
if you want to win regardless of injurys...then you need gordan plus another utility guy...that can hit

cano at 1B is a utility in a way that you dont have to have extra guys...or count on voggy

the mariners need a bit of tweeking but they do not need a lot

dipoto sept 13 th

Jerry Dipoto ‘embarrassed’ by Mariners’ 2nd half, says tough decisions await in offseason

t’s not like we had to go out and play .700 ball to wind up in the postseason,” Dipoto said of the team’s second half. “We just needed to do some of the things we were doing and hold serve, and we didn’t do it. That’s on us. We should be embarrassed by it, and I am.

whatever it takes to fix this ...below...that is what needs to be done
so let it be written so let it be done

“… We have a group of players, frankly it’s close to half our lineup since the midpoint of the season who just stopped getting on base with any regularity. … We have had roughly half our lineup just effectively disappear for half a season, and it’s really hard to score runs when only half of your lineup is working. Understanding that you can’t put three or four hitters in a position where they have to churn night after night, and that’s what we’ve done – and sometimes it’s not even three or four.”

Realistically it is actually impressive that they have had this drought. The A's have dumpster fired what 10 times since the last time they made it, the Astros weren't even pretending to care about winning and still missed on a few number 1 picks. The Angels have overspent on free agents that didn't do anything and the Rangers have been either contenders or massive failures. They should bring up the Mariners organization in college courses about statistical improbabilities.

MLB Power Rankings: Week 26

1. Boston Red Sox

Record: 106-51

Last Week: 1

The Red Sox beat the Orioles 6-2 on Monday night at Fenway Park to set a new all-time franchise record for wins in a single season and clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Nathan Eovaldi started that game and racked up a season-high 10 strikeouts over five innings of one-run ball. The 28-year-old right-hander, who was acquired from the Rays on July 25 for pitching prospect Jalen Beeks, has registered a 3.46 ERA and 44/12 K/BB ratio over 52 innings in a Red Sox uniform and could be asked to make a start in the upcoming ALDS. Boston will open postseason play next Friday at Fenway Park against either the Yankees or A’s.

13. Seattle Mariners

Record: 85-71

Last Week: 13

Seattle fell 7-3 to Oakland on Monday night and had to watch as the Athletics celebrated the clinching of a postseason berth at Safeco Field. The Mariners had an 11-game lead on the A’s in the American League Wild Card standings back on June 15, but they went 10-13 in July, 12-16 in August, and are 10-11 so far in September. The longest active postseason drought in Major League Baseball will continue for a 17th year. That’s also the longest active postseason drought across the four major sports in North America. But, hey, our sincere congratulations go out to longtime Mariners ace Felix Hernandez for officially becoming a United States citizen.
