The mariners website had a story about how guti wants to play next year, probably setting us up for him being our big signing when it happens.

the mariners have to stick it out
cuz houston loses keuchel and morgan this year and cole and verlander the next that is going to be there chance
cuz oakland is prob..here for a while...but they lose pitching as well
and there chances may not be as good next year...maybe
the angels are built on a lot of old free agents...and a couple of stars..trout and simmons and upton

and the minors this year...in the majors as a whole .. are not producing..tons and tons of guys...like to trade for
maybe a few pitchers that you would have to over pay for in a trade

this year and next seem like free agent time...at least to me anyway

remember everywhere except the am league west and east they would still be in the race

At least Cano is still hitting well.

Baseball-Reference has him at a 2.4 WAR over 70 games.

I honestly don't think Cano should be moved to DH. He looked solid at 2B before I left for Kosovo. Looked awful in the handful of games I saw him at 1B.

I feel like I will regret saying this, but if Cruz can be had on a 2 year deal, I think the Mariners should do it. He doesn't look like he has lost much of a step since he got here.

That is the quandary they are in though. Cano back to 2B makes the most sense, but putting Gordon back in CF does nothing to help. If they don't resign Cruz, regardless the offense is going to take a step back (scary I know) This offseason is going to be the most cruel for us, there literally is nothing that can improve the team. They won't spend money on or have the prospects to get an ace so essentially the only thing we can look forward to is a veteran catcher and the next Romine. Dipoto and fans can blame Jack Z all they want but Dipoto traded every chip they had to get them back to where they were that got Jack fired.

Jerry won't replace Servais, they can keep bringing in voodoo doctors from the Natural all they want but unless they can get Zunino to get .230, turn Seager back into a MLB player again and turn Felix into a top end pitcher they are screwed there is nothing. Gordon is who he is, Healy is who he is and no matter what they do at DH it will be a massive downgrade from Cruz. Their window closed this year and they pulled a Pat Gillick and didn't go for it all but didn't sell either which is so terrible now. Had we known what we do now the Mariners had the best players available out of any team outside of Machado over Segura to make a killing on the trade deadline. Had they dealt Paxton, Diaz, Colome, Cruz and Segura they could've stock piled prospects that would have taken them from last to one of the top farm systems in baseball in one deadline.

It just sucks for baseball fans as ownership spend so much energy recently in politics over their product and we suffer as opposed to the other pro franchises in the town who have actually cared about their product regardless of how difficult the decisions have been and have all succeeded.

if they can not get a starting pitcher==eavaldi at least..then i would agree that the mariners should sell

but this prob will not happen for at least one more year as well.....felix contract is stopping progress
so i am looking to the draft..for pitching....and hoping they will not sell it off

also if they did sell..they may not see the playoffs for another 3 or 4 years...maybe..and maybe it would
propell them into a better situation...i cant see the miners guys that would help though
right now
if there are though i dont think many of them would be at AAA right now....so one more year
may be better

I wish Dee could just be gone. That's gonna be another shit trade when we look back on it. Took on an expensive contract for 30 year old and asked him to change positions. I didn't get it then and I sure as heck hate it now. They need a real CF.

I think Leake and Marco both have value if you wanted to trade them.

I haven't watched Cano at 1B enough to know one way or another whether or not it's a good fit for him going forward, but if he's better at 2B, just move him back and don't worry about what it means for Dee Gordon. I'm sorry, but he's just a bad baseball player. He's third from last in OPS among qualified hitters. He hits for no power and never walks.

I think Cano to first was just a way to make this current roster work. I tend to think he will play 2nd or DH going forward. Gordon is terrible, I didn't realize his Fwar is actually ZERO. Glad we are stuck paying that dude 10 mi+ the next two years

Agreed. Gordon has to basically hit for a borderline unsustainable BABIP to be worth anything. If you don't hit for power, you better get on base a lot and that becomes increasingly hard when you take 8 walks in 570 plate appearances.

And got rid of their top pitching prospect as well.

Haniger isn't a great defender in RF and you are really asking for trouble putting him in CF too much. That was the route they went a lot the last few months because it gave them more offense but need a real CF for Safeco

i agree on that... but who is the question...colorado has two at there AAA tauchman and tapia and they resigned blackman

and it has been that way for a while so i assumed that colorado did not want to trade...or seattle did not have what they want in a trade ......they are pretty much the only other cf besides free agents
unless you like franchy cordero of san diego...i do...but..a trade... i cant think of ??....maybe
