You are thinking small. Restricted FA means nothing. Minny can control these guys for 6-7 years each. Then they will have to decide how deep into the tax they wish to go.

By all means though, take Butler if you want to max out where the Clippers are now.

you cant pay them all though.

I am always thinking of how the nuts and bolts ACTUALLY WORK. Planning on a bunch of high lotto picks to pan out and all coalesce 4-5 years down the never works out like that. Never. Guys get salary demands and offers, guys dont pan out, injuries happen. MAybe at the beginning of a rebuild you are planning 3-4 years in the future...but being 2 years in- at least- already- the Twolves roster will be dramatically different 4-5 years from now. Its just not reality.

I'm sorry but the Bulls are still stupid if they trade Butler for Lavine and Dunn. They are still getting taken on that one.

I don't think you get how this works.

Butler is outstanding, but he has no value on a team with a barren roster. He is not good enough to carry a team to the playoffs by himself.

The Bulls almost have to trade him. Dunn + Lavine is one hell of a haul. It might not work out, but these are the types of risks you have to take. Chicago is going nowhere as currently constructed, so they might as well get two potential future stars and start rebuilding. They will eye 2020 or so, once LeBron has slowed down enough for someone else to come out of the East.
